NBA Draft Problems For Dixon and Baxter Written by David Munn After Winning the National Championship, Baxter and Dixon had other things to worry about; the NBA draft. Will they go? If so, what number? What round? All of these questions have passed through the heads of loyal Terrapin fans. Many consider Dixon too skinny to play his position and he may not posses the explosiveness to make his weight up like Allen Iverson and Steve Francis. The threat for Baxter is that is too small to play center at 6'8" and he doesn't have the athleticism to play small forward. Dixon will definitely be picked in the daft. Rumors are spreading that he is already practicing with the Toronto Raptors at a draft camp. However, many teams don't plan to take a risk with Dixon, and he is projected to go in the second round. Nevertheless, Dixon does have the ability to surprise people. No one thought he could do anything at Maryland, but look at what he did. He has the ability to make an impact on the right team. Baxter may be drafted, but could also play in Europe. The question is what the NBA scouts think of these players. But both of these players have the ability to play in the NBA and have good chances of getting in next year. Mouton isn't giving up his dream he recently went to a training camp with Kent State's Trevor Huffman and Georgetown's Kevin Braswell. However, Mouton has a long shot of being drafted as of this year. Dixon and Baxter's draft status continues to be uncertain. No on can truly know how good these players can be until the season starts. Can Juan Dixon make up his lack of weight with his athleticism? Can Lonny Baxter play the forward spot against some of the NBA's biggest men? Can these two players prevail after four unforgettable years at Maryland and become NBA superstars in years to come? Whatever these two players lack- for Dixon weight, for Baxter height, they sure make up for it with heart. |
