* January 4, 1996: The merger between The Walt Disney Company and Capital Cities/ABC is approved. The Walt Disney Company becomes the second largest mediacompany in the world. * February 9, 1996: Last trade of CCB-shares. * February 22, 1996: Disney Online launches Disney.com * May 15, 1996: Disney announces a partnership with the California Angels of 25%. * May 22, 1996: Biggest Disney Store opens in New York on Fifth Avenue. It's 40,000 feet big. * May 23, 1996: Disney and McDonald's make a ten year partnership deal. * July 17, 1996: Disney announces plans to open Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim in 2001. The will the second park at the original Disneyland. * June 21, 1996: The Hunchback of Notre Dame premieres. * November 1, 1996: ESPN, inc. launches ESPNews, a 24h. sportnews channel. * November 18, 1996: Radio Disney debuts. * November 22, 1996: Disney sells LA Television Channel 9, KCAL, for $387 million. * January 28, 1997: Comcast Co. and ABC Cable Networkds form a new organisation to gain a majority share in E!Entertainment Television. *February 21, 1997: Club Disney playcenter opens in Thousand Oaks, Ca. * February 24, 1997: Disney closes a joint venture wih Pixar Animation. Pixar will make 5 films in ten year that Disney will distribute. * April 3, 1997: Disney buys a share in Starwave Co. * April 4, 1997: Knight-Ridder, Inc. buys 4 newspapers from ABC voor $1.65 billion. * June 21, 1997: Disney buys Mammoth Records. * June 27 1997: Hercules premieres. * September 3, 1997: ESPN buys the Classic Sports Network. * November 13, 1997: The Lion King debuts at Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Till today it has been the number one musical on Broadway. * November 26, 1997: Oriental Land Company plans Tokyo DisneySea. This will the second Disneypark in Japan. * April 22, 1998: Animal Kingdom opens at Walt Disney World. * June 7, 1998: The Lion King receives 6 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Director-Musical and Best Costuming. * June 18, 1998: Disney becomes a big player on the Internet by buying a 43% stake in Infoseek. * June 18, 1998: Disney and Infoseek announces Go.com * June 19, 1998: Mulan debuts. Mulan opens the way for Disney to China. * June 19, 1998: DisneyQuest opens at Downtown Disney West Side at Walt Disney World. * June 19, 1998: Disney records a three-for-one stock split. * July 12, 1998: First ESPNZone opens in Baltimore. * July 30, 1998: Disney Magic's maiden voyage.
