Disclaimer:
First of all let me thank you for visiting this site.
Every angler has the reponsibility to protect fish stocks for future generations by handling and unhooking as humanely as possible.
If a fish has swallowed the hookbait, then simply locate the slit at the head of the disgorger on the line keeping the nylon taut, run it down in to the fish's mouth.  Once the disgorger hits the bend of the hook it normally dislodges it automatically allowing it to be retrieved.  Some times you my have to twist the disgorger gently around to get a better hold on to the hook.  But don't use excessive force.  If you can't free it, the fish has a better chance of survival if you cut the line as close to the hook as possible.
Fish naturally pick up very sharp items like shells which are crunched up and passed through or regurgitated.  In time a hook will rust away.  And if you use a barbless pattern the likelihood is that the fish will shed the hook quickly anyway.
The best possible contribution you can make to fish welfare is to handle them with extreme care for the shortest possible time.  It's  possible to virtually eliminate holding a fish out of water by unhooking a sizeable specimen in the landing net  and transferring it in the mesh to the keepnet or releasing  it immediately.
If you've got to handle a sizeable fish for a photograph, wet your hands beforehand than little if any of the protective mucous on the body will be removed.  Never use a towel because it acts like sandpaper!
There are several ways of holding fish but the safest bet for beginner is to support its head in one hand and to cradle the body towards the tail by the anal fin with the other.
If fish must be retained in keepnets, always ensure the net is staked out properly in water that's deep enough to give the fish plenty of movement.  Never allow a keepnet to collapse and if posible position it in the shade.   Because the margins are shallow they can become very inhospitable on hot days.  Always make sure your keepnet is big enough.  It needs to be a minimum of 2m (6ft) in length and a diameter of 45 centimetres (18in) and must be  knotless.
Water Authority bye laws state minimum sizes - so always check if you are unsure or do as I do don't use a keepnet.
Just some of the awards i have received for my website.

So let's get the speech out of the way.  PLEASE, PLEASE take all your litter home with you. Where I live, we have lots of matches, and it makes me sick to the guts, the amount of rubbish and fishing line these so called "caring fisherman" leave behind each weekend.  Apart from litter etc, parking is always a big problem please think of the residents living in the area, don't park in front of drive ways, or on footpaths.  Just one last thing, and that is swearing.  So, if you see these individuals please remind them of their duties thank you . . .

News updates
Just a bit about myself - my name is Terry Champniss, currently living in a village called Northchurch in Hertfordshire, southeast England.  I live with my wife and two children.  I no longer work - hence the website!
The reason for this website is to enlighten all you people out there to the joys of fishing. Both freshwater and seafishing.
It's a myth that it's boring and you just sit or stand there all day and catch a cold!  There's a lot more to it than that.  So in the next few pages I will be showing you the types of things that go into fishing.
MINIMUM HANDLING = MAXIMUM CONSERVATION
