Religious School meets at 9:30 a.m. until Noon on Sunday mornings from late August until the end of May. We currently have six Religious School classes for children aged pre-kindergarten through eight grade. Please see the Temple Beth El Monthly Calendar for specific starting and ending dates, for religious school holidays, and for special religious school events.
For our post-B'nai Mitzvah students, we offer Wednesday School. Its innovative curriculum provides students with opportunities to learn more about their Jewish culture and language. Wednesday School meets Wednesday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the two Temple Beth El Social Halls.
It is the mission of the Temple Beth El Religious School:- to provide our children with happy, interesting and inspiring experiences in the practice of Judaism in the home, school, Synagogue and community.
- to inspire our children with positive and abiding faith in Judaism.
- to prepare them to utilize the religious faith, ethical standards and traditional insights of Judaism in meeting their personal problems.
- to train them for the responsible acceptance of their role in the Synagogue and in the Jewish Community.
- to inculcate in them the universal ideal of Israel's prophets and sages; to explore the teachings of Judaism and the ideals of American democracy, for the reciprocal influence they should have on each other, leading towards our children's dynamic involvement in service for freedom, brotherhood and peace for all men of every color, faith and background.
- to stimulate their sense of community with their fellow Jews, in all parts of the world, and to preserve their relationship with the land of Israel, the land hallowed by our people's memories and hopes and with those spiritual and cultural developments which its revival in our time has made possible.
- to integrate Judaism with American life.
The Study of Hebrew is an indispensable element in the achievement of this purpose. It plays an important part in our course of study. Above all, our purpose must be to stimulate a process of continuous learning, which extends beyond the prescribed program of the Religious School and lasts as long as life itself.
We believe that Jewish education is basic to Jewish survival. We place our faith in an educational system that will produce in youth the spiritual strength, wisdom, morality and vitality necessary to support our religious ideals. We look to an educational system that embraces the three great pillars of Judaism in its quest to elevate the hearts and minds of our young. We look to Torah, Tphilah (prayer), and Mitzvot.
If you have any questions about our Religious School, feel free to contact our Principal at religiousschool@templebethel.tk or our Board of Education Chairman at arosen@midland.edu. We look forward to hearing from you. |
