DEADLY ALLIANCE - by The Hostess

“I can’t breath! Oh please let this be a dream,” screamed Paul. “Wake up,” Melinda yelled. Paul woke up drenched in sweat. “Another nightmare?” asked Melinda. Paul said out of breath, “ I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Every night I have the same dream. Someone or shall I say something thing tries to pull me under the bed. Melinda smiles at Paul and says, “You’re too nervous. Maybe you’re suffering from some kind of anxiety.” “Oh so now I’m crazy,” Paul snapped. “Just because a person has anxieties, doesn’t mean they’re crazy,” Melinda replied. “I’m sorry,” said Paul. “I didn’t mean to snap at you.” “Paul, I have something that will make you happy. Since Mom and Dad are on vacation, I decided to make us breakfast. We need to keep up our strength for the big party tonight and you know how much this party means to me. After all I’ve been planning it for months.” “I know,” Paul replied. “That’s all I ever here. My party this, my party that.” Melinda pretends to strangle Paul. “Hurry up,” she said. “Breakfast is getting cold.” “I’ll be down in a minute,” Paul laughed.

He stands up, but immediately sits down. “Ouch!” Paul screamed. “My ankles are killing me. Oh, the pain!” Paul looks at his ankles. His eyes open wide. He has two large hand marks around each ankle. Paul’s heart begins to race. He runs to the sink and splashes his face with water. He stares into the mirror and says, “I can’t tell Melinda. If I tell her I know I will ruin her party.” He goes down to the kitchen and Melinda has the table set. “I’m so excited for tonight,” said Melinda. “You better not talk bad about my friends.” Paul pretends to laugh, “Don’t worry I won’t.”

“It’s nine o’clock. Why hasn’t anybody showed up?” Melinda said pacing the floor.” Paul said, “Some people start arriving late.” Time passed and it’s eleven fifty five. Melinda said crying,” It’s almost midnight. I can’t believe no one showed up. We look like losers.” Paul said confused, “I don’t know what could have happened. This is very strange.” Paul could see that Melinda was upset. He put his arm around her and said, “Forget them, lets start the party.” “Oh please,” Melinda said sarcastically. “I’m going to party with my brother, how fun. Maybe we can both dream that something is pulling us under the bed, that would be nice.” Paul stared at Melinda sadly. “Oh Paul,” Melinda said in a sympathetic voice. “I didn’t mean that. Paul pulled up his pants and showed Melinda the hand marks on his ankles. “ Paul, are you trying to tell me that something really was pulling you under the bed?” Paul said, “I believe something really was.”

The phone rings. “I’ll get it,” screamed Melinda. “Maybe it’s our guests explaining why they couldn’t come.” Melinda runs upstairs to answer the phone. Paul waits down stairs pacing the floor. “Paul!” yelled Melinda. Come up stairs I want to show you something.” “Where are you?” Paul asked. “I’m in your room.” Paul walks into his room, but he can’t see anything. His room is covered in darkness. “Melinda,” Paul calls out. The lights go on and a crowd of people yell,” SURPRISE!” The room’s filled with people in black hooded robes. Paul said nervously, “What’s going on here?” Melinda walks up to Paul and says, “I’m sorry Paul, our friends were never invited to a party and the friends you invited, I called them up and told them the party was cancelled. I know I had to deceive you, but we had to wait until midnight. I’m sorry to tell you, but something was pulling you under the bed. Our leader kept getting anxious."

Paul said in a nervous voice, “Who is your leader?” Melinda said, “When we were small children Mom and Dad were in a club called Deadly Alliance. Mom and Dad were really popular when they were young. They were two beautiful people, but they had two big fears, old age and death. A friend told them about this club called Deadly Alliance. If a person joins the club, they will live forever and never get old. Mom and Dad were thrilled, so they joined. In order to join this club, you have to do two things. Never break the alliance or else you die, and you have to sell the soul of your first-born child to all that is evil, and that is you. Now it’s about to get really deadly. You will be sacrificed and your soul will be taken away. Mom and Dad thought it was a small price to pay. They told me all about the club and reassured me that I was safe, but you, that’s another story. Your time has come and the leader wants your soul. I’m so happy, because now I will never get old and I will live forever.” Paul said in an angry voice, “All of you are sick and disgusting!” Melinda laughs. “Where is Mom and Dad?” yelled Paul. “Here we are,” said Paul’s Dad. “Sweet Paul,” his mother said. “We never wanted to hurt you, but the offer sounded too good to refuse. There is a chance that you can live forever. Our leader likes you and he wants you to join our club. He’s giving you a chance. Paul, please join us, your soul is going to be lost anyway.”

Paul yelled, “I believe in good, not evil and I don’t believe that my soul will be lost if I do the right thing.” “Quit whining like a little girl,” Paul’s father said. “Just join us.” “Never!” Paul screamed. All of a sudden something grabbed a hold of Paul’s legs. Paul tried to get away, but the force was too strong. Paul fell to the floor and something slowly pulled him under the bed. His fingernails were scratching the floor as he was pulled under. “Help!” Paul screamed. Nobody would help him. As a matter of fact his Mom and Dad were laughing.

Melinda handed her Dad a twenty-dollar bill. “I knew you were going to loose the bet, the dad said. “Paul was always the coward of the family. He never wanted to have fun.” Paul screamed in agony, but no one would help him. Paul came out half way and he was covered in blood. He tried to get himself out from under the bed, but the force was too strong. A voice under the bed said, “I haven’t finished with you yet!” Paul once again was pulled back under the bed. Paul screamed, “ I will not die. My faith is too strong and all of you are weak!” All of a sudden the people began to melt. “What’s going on here?” screamed Melinda. “I don’t know!” the dad screamed. “Help!” the people in black robes cried. Paul managed to pull himself out. He could not believe his eyes. The people were slowly melting. He ran out of the room as fast as his legs could take him. All he could hear were the cries of the people. “Paul!” screamed Melinda. “Help me!” but Paul kept on running. He ran to the front door, but the door wouldn’t open. All of a sudden he hears a loud noise. Paul turns around. Coming down stairs is a black hooded image.

The lights in the house start to go off and on. You could hear the sounds of drums beating. Paul runs into the kitchen and tries to exit out the back door, but the door would not open. He tried to break the sliding door in the kitchen, but it would not break. Paul could hear the drums getting louder and louder. “You can’t escape from me,” The leader said. “Your soul is mine.” Paul screamed, “Never!” He runs back to the living room. He tried the front door again, but it would not open. All of a sudden he feels a tap on his shoulder. He turns around and a beast with glowing eyes grabs him, throws him to the ground and starts to choke him. Paul tries to fight back, but the beast is too strong. Paul screams out, “You can kill me, but you will never steal my soul! Paul wakes up screaming. He pulls up his pajamas to see if he has hand marks around his ankles, but he doesn’t have any marks. “It was just a dream,” Paul said relieved. He gets up and goes to the bathroom. He looks in the mirror and starts to scream. He has hand marks around his throat.
