DEREK - by The Hostess

Derek is what you call a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He pretends to be loving and kind, but in reality he’s a monster. The town’s people love him. Derek helps out the community. He raises money for the poor; he’s always there to lend a helping. The town feels indebted to him. What the town does not know is that Derek steals the money and gives very little to the poor.

Derek is active in his church. He’s in charge of the youth group. Derek loves to work with the youth, especially the young girls. He loves to manipulate them. Derek is in his forties, but he pretends to be cool. He’s not good looking, but little girls flock him anyway. Derek makes promises; he puts them on pedestals, only to knock them off with his evilness.

Derek has his youth group meetings every Friday at 7:00 p.m. He has a group of twenty. Five boys and fifteen girls. His favorite girl is Corinne, but she is still interested in Todd. They used to be boyfriend and girlfriend. Todd used to be Derek’s second hand or second slave. Todd did everything for Derek until he found out that Corinne and Todd were secretly seeing each other. Derek told Todd secretly that he better break up with Corrine. He made Todd choose either the youth group or Corinne, Derek also added that he would tell Todd’s parents that he received an F in math. Derek always checks his youth group’s grades for black mail purposes. Todd broke up with Corrine, but she doesn’t know why.

When Derek is at youth group, he acts like a child. He’s always making fun of Todd, so Todd makes fun of Derek. Everybody laughs, but they both look like fools. Derek loves to rub against the girls and give them massages. He also likes to pin the girls against the wall. The girls love it, and so does Derek. As for the boys, Derek treats them awful. Derek used to have six boys in his group, but he forced Jack to leave. Jack’s parents were not wealthy and he would use the same torn jacket every week, so Derek would make fun of him. He would tell the group that Jack smelled and never took a bath. He would also say that he always wore the same clothes, because he was dirt poor. The group would laugh, and make fun of him. Jack never came back.

At one of the youth group meetings Derek said, “let’s get down to business. We need to raise money for the Missions.” Derek is going to pocket the money, because he’s behind on his rent. Derek loves to spend money and show off. Isaac said, “How should we raise the money?” Derek ignored him. “Maybe we should have a car wash,” said Caitlin. “Good idea,” Derek said excited. In the corner of the room sits a very shy girl named Anna. She always mumbles her words and it is hard to understand her. She speaks very quietly. She has long black straight hair that’s always in her face. Derek used to be her third grade Sunday school teacher and she’s been in love with him since. Of course Derek never paid any attention to her.

Anna said in a quite voice, “I could buy the supplies for the car wash.” “Did someone say something?” Derek said annoyed. The group turned to look at Anna. “I could buy the supplies for the car wash,” Anna repeated. “I don’t think so,” said Derek. “Supplies cost money, which you do not have.” “Oh, but I do,” Anna said enthusiastically. “My father is the chief of staff at Bowers Hospital, so we have plenty of money.” Derek’s eyes lit up. He changed his tone with Anna. “Anna are you sure it will be okay with your parents?” Derek said in a sweet voice. She nodded yes. “I have a good idea,” Derek said. “Let’s make Anna in charge of this project. We can work together on this one.” Anna was so happy. Derek finally paid attention to her.

Youth group came to an end and everybody left except for Anna, she was waiting for her mother to come pick her up. “Hey Anna,” Derek said in a kind voice. “Give me your address, and phone number, and I’ll give you mine. Call me anytime. Even if you just want to talk.” They exchanged numbers. “I’m hungry,” said Derek. What about you Anna, Would you like to get something to eat with me? Anna’s heart could not stop pounding. “Yes,” she said nervously. “I’ll call my mom and tell her that you will take me home.” Derek said, “First I have to stop at my house, so they went. Derek and Anna sat on the couch. Derek said alluring; I’m not hungry anymore. All I want to do is stare at you.” Derek gently pulled back Anna’s hair away from her face. “Let me look at you,” Derek said softly. “You are so beautiful.” Anna started to cry. “Why are you crying?” asked Derek. “This is a dream come true. I’ve been in love with you since the third grade,” Anna said quietly. Derek leaned over and kissed Anna.

A month passed. Derek and Anna managed to keep their relationship a secret. Anna would give Derek money. She bought him expensive gifts. Derek never liked Anna; he just used her for the money. At one of the youth group meetings, Anna did not go because she had the flu. What Derek did not know was that Todd told Corinne everything about Derek making him choose between her and the group. Corinne was furious. She said, “I’m going to tell that idiot off. He needs to pay for what he did.” Todd said, “Don’t worry I have an idea.”

After youth group, Corinne said to Derek, “I need to talk to you, it’s important.” Derek eyes opened wide. He said, “sure.” Corrine said in a soft voice, “Derek I think you are so cute, you are a hottie. You drive me crazy.” Derek stood in shock. Corinne said, “Leave Anna for me. I know you always liked me, and I liked you for so long. I just didn’t know how to tell you. I thought you might think me foolish.” Derek said, “Oh Corinne, I’ll do anything for you. I’ll leave Anna for you. That pathetic freak! She repulses me. I hate to be around her. I hate to touch her. I’ll leave her for you. You’re the one I always wanted.” What Derek did not know was that Todd had called Anna, and she overheard the whole thing. Corinne whispered in Derek’s ear, “I have a surprise for you.” Todd brought in Anna. “Surprise,” Todd yelled. Derek started to laugh. “You stupid kids. You think you can manipulate me? I’m the prince of darkness.” Todd, Corinne, and Anna started to scream.

“Scream all you want, no one can hear you,” Derek said in an evil voice. “I am the true evil one. I like to play on people’s emotions. I make people think that they are my friends and I dump them for other people who can benefit me. It’s all about my needs and me. I don’t care about people; all I care about is looking good and getting praised. I love to fool people, especially parents. Parents love me. They trust me with their children. I’ve taken my youth group out of town and overnight, and parents are fine with it, because they trust me. They are the biggest fools of them all. If parents only knew what kind of fun I have with their daughters.”

Derek said, “Anna, you are pathetic, Corrine, I will make you my queen, and Todd, you must DIE.” Anna, Corinne, and Todd tried to run out the door, but the door would not open. Derek started to laugh an evil laugh. He transformed into a dragon like creature. His eyes were red; his tongue was sharp. The creature grabbed Todd and started to take a bite out of him. On the corner table was a small container with Holy water in it. Anna grabbed the Holy water and threw it at the creature. The creature started screaming and he went up in flames. Todd broke a window and they got out. The building burned down and Derek was never found . . .
