Thalia, who was born in Mexico, is the fifth daughter of Yolanda Miranda Mange and Ernesto Sodi Pallares. She has 4 sisters: Laura, Grasiela, Federica and Ernestina.
Thalia’s career began when she was very young. She took part in many childish festivals and groups. She sang for the first time when she was 3 years old in “Estudiantinas Estudian” show. At the age of 6 she started learning ballet, piano, and phonetics. Thalia joined in the children’s group “Din Din” when she was 9 years old and they recorded 4 CDs. Then she appeared in the musical “Vaselina”. In September 1986, Thalia joined in the group “Timbiriche” with whom she recorded 3 CDs. The group became very successful in Mexico and Brazil and their songs were at the No1 in charts for a long period.
In 1987, Thalia appeared for the first time in a soap opera called “La Pobre Senorita Limantour” and in 1988 in “Quinceanera”. In 1989 Thalia retired from “Timbiriche” and she starred in the soap opera ”Luz y Sombra”. From 1990 until 1994 she recorded 3 CDs: “Thalia”, “Mundo de Cristal” and “Love”. She also starred in a trilogy of soap operas playing characters called “Maria”: “Maria Mercedes” (1992), “Marimar” (1994) and “Maria La Del Barrio” (1995). These soap operas were very successful and they topped TV ratings in many countries. Even today (2004) they are played in many TV channels around the world with great success. Her CD “En extasis“, which released in 1995, became gold and platinum in South America, U.S.A., Argentina, Chile and Philippines. Thalia visited over 20 countries for concerts that period! The next hit was “Amor a la mexicana” in 1997. In Brazil it sold 70000 copies in only two weeks! “Rosalinda” (1999) is the latest soap opera in which Thalia has starred. In this soap opera, Laura Zapata (Thalia’s sister) appeared in some episodes. During the shoot of “Rosalinda”, Thalia fell in love with Tommy Mottola. Thalia also starred in the Hollywood film “Mambo Cafe” (1998).
In 2000 Thalia recorded the CD “Arrasando” and it was a hit with four CD-singles The song “Arrasando” has also released in English and the CD-single is called “It’s my party”… On 2nd of December 2000 Thalia got married with Tommy Mottola, the president of Sony Music. Some months later Thalia was godmother to her friends’ (Itati and Eduardo Santamarina) twins. In 2001 she recorded again her greatest hits which are included in the CD “THALIA con banda grandes exitos” (“THALIA greatest hits in banda style”). All of them are in banda rhythm, a traditional rhythm of Mexico. Her next CD “THALIA” released on March 2002 and dominated the charts, as well as the singles “Tu Y Yo” and “No Me Ensenaste”. In 2003 Thalia recorded her 10th album “Thalia” which was her first English album. For this album, Thalia worked with Fat Joe in the song “I Want You” and with famous producers.
Thalia continued her great career with her “Thalia Sodi Clothing Line” and then paired-up in an advertising deal with Hershey Foods. Thalia endorsed Hershey chocolates in television commercials, radio and magazines, and in addition to that, Hershey produced new versions of its chocolates that were co-branded with Thalia’s name. Hershey sponsored Thalia’s High Voltage concert tour 2004. Thalia has also dedicated a lot of time and effort to make her own magazine. The three-issue magazine “Thalia” hit news-stands in April 2004 in United States. In the same year Thalia released the album “Greatest Hits” in 3 editions: CD (with 2 new songs), CD/DVD and DVD (with 16 video clips). She also filmed the amazing video clip “Accion Y Reaccion” during the High Voltage Tour which was a compilation of the best moments of the tour. Afterwards Thalia signed on as the first face of important creator of jewels Jacob & Co and then she announced the Thalia Sodi achievement scholarship which will be given out annually to goal-oriented Milton Hershey School seniors who have overcome hardships and exemplify a positive spirit through strong character. Latin beauty Thalia has always participated in educational programs from New York’s Pencil to Toys for Tots to her own yearly Christmas present giveaway.
In 2005 Thalia released the CD/DVD “The Sixth Sense” (“El Sexto Sendito”) with songs in Spanish and English, and great videos. Thalia was the first Latin artist to have pre-orders of her CD available on Itunes. Her new CD “El Sexto Sendito Reloaded” (2006) includes new songs as well as a duet with the group Aventura
In 2007 Thalia joined ABC Radio to start "The Conexion Thalia Radio Show". She also released the book "Thalia: ¡Belleza!-Lessons in Lipgloss and Happiness.
In 2008 Thalia signed a new contract with cosmetics company "Fuller" and launched her second perfume. Her new CD ''Lunada'' was released in June 2008.
