April, 2000

MEMBERS enjoyed the clinic presented by John Riley at our March Meeting which included examples of dioramas that were constructed inexpensively. One was a water tower that was required less than $1.00 in materials cost. The examples were a clear indication that the bits and pieces and general clutter seen in steam days can be provided on our layouts for little or no cost.

During his presentation, John referred to his early friendship  with Les Torrens that dated from the late '50's. Les had encouraged John with his modeling endeavours in those early days  when the kinds of kits and materials that we now accept in the marketplace were not available, including many items from his Canada Southern Railway.

THANK YOU to Allan Mearns for his slide presentation featuring steam on German Railways. A friend of Allan's  visited Germany in the early '70's when there was still a variety of steam traffic on the railways.
The impression gained from the slides was that the locomotives were maintained in a reasonably clean conditions.
