There are volumes written about what to do and how to do it when your bird becomes ill. What we would like to focus on is recognizing when your bird is becoming ill and common sense precautions. Most diseases of birds have an incubation period during which time the bird might show anywhere from none to several subtle symptoms of something going wrong. Such symptoms can include plucking feathers, drinking too much water, abnormal droppings, etc. Usually, by the time an owner notices the more obvious signs of illness, such as sitting listlessly on the bottom of the cage all fluffed up, the disease or condition is in advanced stages. Take the time to study your birds, learn what is normal for them so that you will recognize abnormalities when they do show up. After all, your bird's life depends on you. We have broken down health concerns into different categories. These are simply to get you started in the right direction in caring for your birds. These are certainly not all-encompassing and as time allows, we will be expanding on these topics and adding new ones. |
