Sometimes I've convinced people desire only strings.
I have never, and will never, believe in the concept that all things happen for a reason.
I'll give you that SOME things might happen for a reason. I'll even give that MANY things happen for a reason. But I will never, EVER, agree that ALL things happen for a reason.
My reasoning? Because if that is true then we are all puppets be manipulated by this unseen force and all of our decisions are premade and nothing we do is based on our own wishes. Some force in the universe has decided how we are going to live, how we are going to die, and who we are going to affect in our lives no matter what we want.
How pathetic is that? Any bad decisions we make aren't our fault.
Does this make any sense? I mean one universal hope in the world is that if you live a good life and make the right decisions, work hard, and stick to a goal you'll come out stronger in the end. To balance that it is known that if you make the wrong decisions, give up on yourself, or live life regardless of consequences bad things are bound to happen to you.
We are truly the laziest beings in creation. Because now, more and more, I hear "it wasn't meant to be." COME ON PEOPLE WAKE UP!!
Any relationship takes work. Sometimes HARD work. But the belief is that in the end it'll be a better relationship and we'll be better off for working at it. But too many throw up their hands and say "it wasn't meant to be." OMG! If it wasnt' meant to be then why did it happen in the first place? God must be a cruel and merciless being if that is true because He would apparently deliberately put you in doomed relationships and purposely choose YOU to have a deadly disease or terminal problem. If things were always meant to be then those who struggle through adversity and strife to come out strong and powerful in their lives were wasting their time! They could have just sat there and done nothing and the end would be the same.
Sounds pretty stupid non? There is a quote from a game I play that i just love. I'll probably butcher it but the point is the same.
"Man's unfailing capacity to believe what he prefers to be true rather than what the evidence shows to be likely and possible has always astounded me.
We long for a caring universe that will save us from our childish mistake. And in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary we'll pin all our hopes on the slimmest of doubts.
God has not been proven not to exist, therefore, he must exist."
Now, I'm very spiritual and I believe in God and Bill Gates, but I do NOT believe that He put us in a position just so he can dictate our entire lives and subject us to his whim. (God that is, not Bill Gates who DID subject us to his whim) I believe we were put on this planet to grow, learn, and explore it and all it's mysteries.
Everyone wants to be absolved for their mistakes. But absolution is one thing, blamelessness is something else.
Today I saw a girl fall in a store. Her mother said that was God punishing her for being bad earlier. um, hello? if God had to punish our every crime then we'd never need secular judges and I'd be in hell already! The concept of forgiveness for our sins would truly put that point to shame in itself.
Last week i saw a car accident. When the guy got out to get the information, the woman jumped out and said that God will punish him for this. I'm thinking, "He alread is, listen to you bitch!" But by what right do we have to decide on our own that we're going to invoke God for every minor altercation we deal with?
People want a scapegoat for their actions and we've all gotten too lazy to take responsibility.
If things were Meant to be, we'd never have to work for anything in our lives... everything would happen, or not, based on that fluid statement. If God was a puppeteer then why would we need to go to church, or school, or even work for a living if it was going to happen or not no matter what we did.
What a depressing world that would be knowing that everything bad in your life was a punishment for something you were meant to do in the first place! twisted. And you couldn't take credit for any accomplishments or successes because it was meant to happen anyway!
Some people were meant to have cancer. Some people were meant to have doomed relationships. Some people were meant to live a problem free life. Some people were meant to never pay for crimes. Some people were meant to always be alone. And some people apparently were meant to be aborted.
Wow, more depressing.
Now, the disclaimer: I DO thing somethings happen for a reason. There are too many "coincidences" to say otherwise. But anyone who says everything happens for a reason might as well just hang out around the house until it does.
For the rest of us, we'll keep working towards our goals, hoping for a brighter future, fighting problems in our lives, and taking pleasure in the good things that come our way. If that isnt living, then I'm at a loss as to what is.
But one thing is clear, if those "mean to be'ers" would all jump into a volcano we'll see how many were "meant" to die... hey, if they were meant to live they would survive, right?
but of course, I'm an idiot. |
