Final Fantasy Glossary In this section, you may come to better understand some of the odd words used in the Final Fantasy game series. These definitions are not perfect, and are not in any particular order. If you believe I should either add some information on something, or should add a new definition, please feel free to e-mail me and let me know. Moogle- A race of small, white creatures that a commonly found in the Final Fantasy World. They are generally friendly and always willing to lend a helping hand if possible. They generally a very small. Approximately the size of an average teddy bear. ![]() Chocobo- A race of yellow bird-like animals. Usually bred for riding and/or racing, these creatures are very timid, but very friendly as well. They love a green plant known as "Gyshal Greens". They are usually about the size and stock of an ostrich, but the summon form can be unusually large at times... even bigger than Marlon Brando himself! ![]() Summon- An extremely powerful force of magic. Also referred to as espers, guardian forces, and eidelons, summons are of the most powerful magic. Usually they take their name from a mythic god pertaining to their elemental attribute. For instance, Hades and Odin are of the death elemental. Both Hades and Odin are gods of death in Greek and Norse mythology respectively. In Final Fantasy, when summons are called upon, usually a full video sequence takes place and all commands are locked out temporarily. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Materia- In Final Fantasy 7, magic is used by equipping so called "Materia Gems" to your weapons and armor. There are many different color classifications to the materia gems. Purple is for status enhancement, Blue is for support magic, Yellow is for command (ie: Steal), Green is for attack or curative magic, and Red is Summon materia. "SD"- SD stands for "Super Deformed". This is a condition in which the character's head is larger than his or her body. This can be seen the most easily in Final Fantasy Nine Airship- An airship is exactly like it sounds, a ship that flies through the air. They can either work off of superior technology (ie: The Highwind) or off of magic and lower technology (ie: The Prima Vista) Eitherway, airships are the choicest way to travel in any Final Fantasy Game Minigame- This refers to a smaller gimick game found somewhere within the main game. Examples are the chocobo racing in FF7, the chocobo digging game in FF9, and the forthcoming Blitz Ball minigame in FFX. Nobuo Uematsu- The composer of all the nice you music you hear in Final Fantasy games. His music kicks ass! Hironobu Sakaguchi- The director of the Final Fantasy series. We have this man to thank for all those hours spent staring into our television while smashing the buttons on the controller. HE IS A GOD! (j/k) Yoshitako Amano- He is the visionary of what I call the FF Trio that consists of Sakaguchi, Amano, and Uematsu. He just thinks and creates. His character designs are beyond anything imaginable. He is an art god. An inspiration to me and a few of my friends. He of course is the art direct for the Final Fantasy series. Graphix Junkies- These are the people that bring down the quality of video games today. All they want is pretty characters, and flashy effects. They care nothing for the story, or the personalities of the characters. Thanks to these people, we got the piece of trash known as FF8. I just hope the same doesn't prove true for FFX |
