At the start, Ken was evil and said he was the Digimon Emporer and that he was the ruler of the Digital World. He made lots of evil plans and destroyed a part of the Digital world. Davis and the others made him come back to his mind when Wormmon, his Digimon (that he didn't particulary like before), sacrificed himself to save him from Kimeramon. Then, he recieved the crest of Kindness.
