NORDIC DOPING SCANDAL
IICC Associated Press - March 7/04 11:48am EST

We have just received word on a developing story out of the Nordic Region.

Details are sketchy at this time, but word has it that an athlete on one of the Nordic Regional teams has tested positive for an illegal banned substance.

The IICC wouldn't say who that athlete was at the time of this posting. They won't even tell us which team he plays for. The IICC committee have told us that they have scheduled a press conference for later on this evening to address the situation.

More details to follow.

IICC officials kick the Kroners and introduce new seeding system
IICC Associated Press - March 7/04 7:48am EST

The IICC committee had their much anticipated press conference this evening, and as a result, they are now left with 19 teams in the IICC.

The much talked about rumours of an athlete in the Nordic Division being caught with an "illegal substance" in his system were proven to be true.

Tre Kroners defenceman Al Kaholic was the athlete in question and as a result, the Kroners have been disqualified from the IICC.

IICC officials handed down their decision swiftly  stating "we will not tolerate these kinds of shenanigans."
This now leaves the strong Nordic Division with only 4 teams as the hunt for a replacement team begins.   IICC officials are scrambling to find a suitable team to fill the vacant spot left by the Kroners.  Whoever replaces the Kroners will be in for a rough ride along side the #1 ranked Garden Warriors.

Sources indicate an invitation to join the IICC will be sent out to the Hoegsbo StreetCats as a result of today's shocking events.  Whether or not the StreetCats answer the call and accept the invite  is a mystery.

IICC officials also announced plans for a new seeding system during the press conference.  All teams in the IICC will be seeded according to the calcualations used to determine qualifying.  The seeding system numbers will not change through out the duration of the IICC.  It will only be used  as a guide to show the fans how all the teams measured up at the beginning of the tournament.  It is too early to tell how everyone will react to this new seeding system.

Hoegsbo StreetCats Accept IICC Invitation
IICC Associated Press - March 8/04 12:48pm EST

The IICC committee didn't have to wait long to fill the gap left by the banished Kroners.

It was announced earlier today that Sweden's Hoegsbo StreetCats have accepted the IICC's invitation to join the underteamed, yet still strong Nordic Division.

The IICC is once again full with 20 teams with a only a few days remaining until the kick off of the next SLH campaign.

IICC officials are hoping no more teams go AWOL in the meantime
IICC Qualifying Match Set
IICC Associated Press - March 8/04 1:00pm EST

Terms were finalized earlier today in an effort to determine the final qualifier for the IICC's USA Division.

The Badass Blues won the 'right to challenge' from the coin toss over the Beekman Moose whose AWOL manager failed to show up for the toss.

Both teams look primed and ready for this big sudden death, winner-take-all matchup.   The game features the up and coming Blues team taking on the veteran Moose squad.

The winning team moves on to the IICC, where they will look to represent their region. While the losing team will head out to the local pub to drown in their sorrows all while discussing "what could have been".

IICC Teams Successful!
IICC Associated Press - March 9/04 2:48pm EST

It is no secret that the IICC is home to some of the Elitest teams on the Iggy server.  But just how good are they?

There are 21 teams currently waiting for the puck to drop on the 1st ever IICC, here is how teams faired in the their SLH Divisional Finals games.  Take note, there are 21 teams due to the unsure outcome of the Blues/Moose match to determine the final qualifier for the USA Division.

17 out of the 21 IICC managers found themselves in the SLH Playoff finals.

Of those 17, 12 managed a score a victory and were crowned playoff champions within their division.

While there was overall success for most of the teams, it won't mean much as when the IICC gets underway.

When all is said and done, there will only be 1 IICC Champion!

Canada Wins CS
IICC Scare, Shield Win for Canada
IICC Associated Press - March 10/04 11:48pm EST

IICC officials were thrown into a panic early this morning when an act of God threatened to halt the much anticipated IICC.

"Our computers were on the fritz and everything seemed to be lost" quoted an IICC spokesperson.

Luckily it was just a minor mishap and everything was cleared up shortly after.  The panic could be seen on the faces of many as people began running in the streets screaming "the world has ended, save me, save me!"

In other news, 2 IICC teams clashed in the Iggy Champion's Shield Finals as Canada's Toronto Buzz met the Nordic's Ekebyholm Vikings.

Canada's Buzz won by a convincing score of 6-1.

Was this a sign of things to come or was it just a fluke?  This reporter thinks they just got lucky.
Make Way For MOOSE!
Moose Overcome The Blues
IICC Associated Press - March 13/04 2:08pm EST

The Beekman Moose defeated the Badass Blues 4-3 to claim the final USA Divisional spot today.

It was a very close game which could have easily swung either way.  In the end, the Moose seemed to get all the lucky bounces as they were outshot by the Blues 33-28.  The match turned ugly in the 3rd period  when the Blues' Dip Stick grabbed the Moose's Kelly Askew a started pounding him in an attempt to pump adreneline into his team.  The scrap seemed to work as the Blues took a 3-2 lead shortly after, but the Moose refused to wave the white flag and came back to tie it and eventually win it.

After the game the Blues' coach Mikeh71 stated "Good game Slasher, I guess my 2nd year boys are not good enough to defend the USA's honor, but we're getting there."

It was a shame too as the Blues had won home ice advantage with the earlier coin toss.  Congrats to the Moose and good luck in the IICC
Oulu Cobras Are Feeling "Super"
IICC Associated Press - March 15/04 12:55pm EST

Sometimes you feel good, sometimes you feel great, but if you're the Oulu Cobras, you feel SUPER!

Last night, in non-IICC action, 2 IICC teams squared off for the highly coveted Super Cup.  The Nordic's Cobras took on Canada's Riggers in what was expected to be a nail-biter of a game.  The result, was borderline humiliation as the Cobras pounded the Riggers by a score of 5-0.  The Riggers coach was at a loss for words when he was questioned as to why his team couldn't find the back of the net all night long. "We shoot save miss them score damn damn damn" were the words of the seemingly shooken up Riggers Coach after the game.

As for the Cobras, this was their first knockout cup of what coach Juho hopes to be a huge collection. "These cups make great paper weights, and I have a lot of paper that needs to be weighed down, so I'm gonna need more cups" stated the champagne drenched half intoxicated Cobra's coach at a press conference following the game.
Ever Feel Like Breaking A Record?
IICC Associated Press - March 21/04 4:20pm EST

Did you ever feel the urge to break a record?  Did you want to have your name seen by all as the top dog in any given aspect of the game?  If you answered yes to either of those questions, you're in luck.  The IICC is now going to give you the chance to showcase what you've got.
Earlier this week the IICC announced plans for some new "awards" to be handed out.  But why stop there?  They've decided to add an area to the bottom of the "IICC Trophy Room" which will be dedicated to IICC achievements.  Some of these records will be the kinds of records future IICC teams will aim for. Some will be the kind they'll want to avoid.  But all of them will be kept as a sort of guideline for future IICC teams to look upon when they are curious to see how the legendary IICC teams have performed in the past.
The record area will only keep track of extreme stats.  No most assists records, we dont need em.  Some of the various categories will include "most goals for", "most goals against", "most shutouts", and the ever ugly "most times being shutout".
So far there have only been 3 areas of records announced.  Single Game Records, Divisional Records, and IICC Total Records.  IICC officials were quick to add that there still may be more to come.  In fact they wanted us to relay this message onto the fans, if you check out the records page and think a specific record type is missing, click the "
Contact IICC" link on the left and let them know.
Unfortunately, the sad part is that there are no records for us reporters to break, which kinda stinks if you ask me.  But you never asked me did you, so I better shutup now before I lose my job and have to go back to that crumby job working for the New York Times.  Reporting sucks, I wish I could be playing for the Wawatosa Moose.
Website Addition Sparks Rumours
IICC Associated Press - March 19/04 3:00am EST

Some fans checking out the IICC homepage were baffled by the addition of a link to the main menu area of the front page.  Although there has been no official word from the IICC as to what this link will contain, speculation has already begun to run rapid.

Our calls to the main IICC office were not returned as of this post, and as a result, we cannot provide any solid facts on this mysterious link at this moment in time.  We can however relay some of the specualtion found on various internet chat forums worldwide.

"It's gonna be a link to take you around the world and back in 60 seconds, and it'll spread love and peace man" stated one user by the name of "RedEyedHippyFlowerPower@}-)----".

"It's gonna be a link to the MATRIX, and then once you click it, you'll be sucked in it forever and ever and ever and ever, and then you aint coming back sucka........SOMEONE ALERT MORPHEUS!" stated a seemingly anxious user by the name of "O_o_MR.MaTRiX_o_O".

"A link to order some pizza would be swell" stated "THATHUNGRYTUBBY".

"Link? like I really give a #$@ about a #$@%#$ link.  You can take the #@$!@# link and stick that #@$!@# right up your #@$@$% @$$@#@#$  you stupid #%@#%" stated a somewhat angry user by the name of "#1UKFOOTBALLFAN".

I guess we'll just have to wait for the IICC to make an official announcement, until then, this reporter wonders what was up with that truck outside the IICC Headquarters.
Link Mystery Solved
IICC Associated Press - March 19/04 2:20pm EST

IICC Officials put an end to the mysterious "link" rumours today at a press conference.  They used the meeting to announce plans for a histoical page within their IICC website.  Upon hearing this, I couldn't help but wonder how big of a page it would have to be seeing as how there was only 1 trophy to be handed out, the IICC.  I was about to put my overpaid reporting skills to the test with prying dirt-digging questions but as I soon discovered, they were not going to needed.
The IICC Officials informed everyone that along with the highly coveted IICC (Iggy International Championship Cup), there would be more trophies and awards up for grabs.  What kind of trophies you ask, well give me a second to tell ya.  (sheesh)

~ Division Playoff Winners each will have their own award. (4 in total)
~ Conference Playoff Winners each will have their own trophy. (2 in total)
~ an "IICC Super Sniper Trophy", awarded to the team(s) with the most goals at the conclusion of divisional play.
~ an "IICC Brickwall Roy Memorial Trophy" awarded to the team(s) allowing the fewest goals against during divisional play.
~ an "IICC Wayne Gretzky Memorial Trophy" awarded to the team(s) with the most points at the conclusion of divisional play.

The addition of the new trophies and awards gives all teams the chance to win something.  Although this reporter is betting easy money on a few teams to become multiple award winners.  For a sneak preview of the "IICC Trophy Room", click

NOTE: No actual trophies or awards will be physically given out, sorry, but the IICC is a cash strapped organization who often bounces cheques to their employees.
