Everything You Do Is Right Week. Woohoo! Topic 1) Lunchtime Politics: - By Me
Responding to some of the ideas we hear in Government class, our lunch table has been buzzing with opinions on many ideas. This will be the first in a series of . . . of . . . however many it takes.
Ok, this week's question: Agree or disagree? School boards ought to have the right to fire teachers who are known homosexuals.
Cat's opinion: HELL NO.
I'm sure many of you know my openness to other walks of life. And I think that's an important quality in American citizens. If no one were open to differences, we'd all be a bunch of clones who hate each other. I think if a teacher is homosexual, so what? Why should we even know? And I've had teachers who talk to their classes about their family and significant others and such, and I see no reason to stop them from doing that as long as it's appropriate.
As my Catholic upbringing teaches, "Love the sinner, hate the sin." I believe this is an important part of accepting different types of people. (Although I don't even think homosexuality is a sin.) Plus, by just listening to other people, you can learn new things. I can attest that I have learned something new from every person I have ever met. And I have learned the most from those that were in a position to teach me new things. I'd probably go nuts if I didn't learn anything new! So, as long as the teacher is doing their job correctly, there is no logical reason to fire them, right?
I think our students should be taught by different types of people. Some conservatives want to keep out that "nontraditional" influence, but I personally see nothing wrong with it. When kids grow up, they will most likely be working alongside homosexuals. Might as well get them used to it early, right?
We live among such homophobia that it drives me nuts. And, no offense, but I've noticed that most homophobics are men--men who aren't secure enough with their own sexuality to embrace other walks of orientation. I'm not saying all men are homophobes (heck, they can't all be or we wouldn't have any gay men!) or that all women aren't homophobic. But the men are much more vocal about this issue and make up a larger percentage of our legislature. These men (and women) would be the ones to propose such an asinine requirement for a job.
All in all, if a teacher is doing their job correctly, it shouldn't matter what sexual orientation they hold. That's blatant discrimination, which we don't really hold a candle to here in America. And think of it this way: we now can flirt with even more teachers to influence our grades . . . Topic 2) Graduation of Friends: - By Shannon Mylander
Ok y'all. Now, I am a junior and most of you know it. The thing is, I have several humans, I like to call them friends, that are seniors and will be graduating in about three and a half months. It somewhat saddens me to know that most of them I will never see again in my life. Some, I might see in the news--journalists or otherwise (a.k.a. AMERICA'S MOST WANTED!!). Those journalist types will be the ones who were smart enough to actually go through with what they like to do, rather then just getting a lame job for the sake of getting some moolah. I wish that all the people you were close to at any point in time could actually stay close to you. It would definitely be nice, don't you think? Anyway, I just want to say that I will miss you all and I hope that, even if I never see you again, you will remember me and the sucky entries I submitted to The Litterbox.
"Pursue your passion; empower your dreams." I saw that in a magazine some guy had in my English class while I was reading over his shoulder. Hehe! It's a good quote though, ain't it? Love y'all! ~Shannon P.S. ~10 year reunions are always fun. You get to see people you like and laugh at the ones you never did like because they made fun of you.
Remember, the stuck-up popular ones always end up the fattest! That's fun to laugh at, if anything! (I don't mean to offend; I just like to be funny. I betchya 10 bucks at least ONE person laughed at that! Or at least giggled! )Topic 3) A Small Quiz: - By Me
Question #1: Are you male?
Question #2: Are you straight?
Question #3: Are you in need of a prom date?If you answered "yes" to all of the above questions, then you would make an excellent candidate for the position of Cat's Prom Date. She is now accepting applications. She does not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, social status, hair color, or musical preference.
Topic 4) Cat's Song Lyric of the Week:
Inquire within.
I want to run through the halls of my high school; I want to scream at the top of my lungs; I just found out there's no such thing as the real world, just a lie you've got to rise above.
