You can just call me the Movie Whore. (But my services are free!)
Div and I went to "Shrek" the other night, and I came to an interesting realization. The movie is PG. And so is "Atlantis." This means that no G-rated movies are playing in our theater, and I don't think any are out at all. Kids grow up so fast these days...
"Shrek" was pretty good, and it was definitely PG because of some adult humor that little 6-year-olds will not understand for another 8 years. It made fun of all the classic fairy tales, which of course means that the princess beats the green tights out of Robin Hood. I kinda guessed the ending, but hey, it was a cartoon. And even though it's animated, a lot of the backgrounds actually look real, which Div and I thought was a cool touch.
And of course it has a feel-good ending that makes you wanna get up and go buy the soundtrack on your way home.Topic 2) Stealing Air Space!: - By Kim Larson
Ultimate Frisbee is the best sport in the world. It has an element for everyone. There is the whole throwing part for those physical people; there's the blocking and interception part for the people that need to release anger and that kind of thing; there's the defending part for those people that have quick reflexives and are good at anticipating stuff; there's the catching of passes at the goal-line for the people that don't like to move but have good hand-eye coordination; and for the total non-athletic slug types there is always the job of water boy. Topic 3) Cat's Song of the Week:
"I'm a Believer" by Smashmouth, or the Monkees, whichever version you prefer. I'm especially fond of the Singing Donkey Version featured at the end of "Shrek" Topic 3) Webpage of the Week:
Val's pick: www.howstuffworks.com Quite interesting, I might add.Topic 4) Quote of the Week:
Beware--the celery stalks at midnight. (I saw this on a dorm door when we visited my sister's college. I kept weaseling it into conversation for the entire ride home.)Closing:
Happy 4th of July all. Happy 5th of July while I'm at it. Have a good week. Hope to see some of you guys at the Justice Center on Wednesday night.
Oh yeah, Val would kill me if I didn't mention the beautiful site that she created for The Litterbox. It's got archives and links and all that good stuff.
