On Friday, the House held a vote in support our troops. There were 11 Democrats who voted "NO" on the support of our troops in harm's way, some of which have given the ultimate sacrifice. Remember these names well, as you will want to vote against them the next opportunity you have. John Conyers (Mich.) Mike Honda (Calif.) Stephanie Tubbs Jones (Ohio) Barbara Lee (Calif.) Jim McDermott (Wash.) Charles Rangel (N.Y.) Bobby Scott (Va.) Fortney "Pete" Stark (Calif.) Edolphus Towns (N.Y.) Maxine Waters (Calif.) Diane Watson (Calif.) If you do not believe this, go see the House Clerk's Record online. Notice there are names of elected officials who actually went to Baghdad to give comfort and support to Saddam. Also, the very Congressman who wants to reinstate the draft is not in support of the troops who are there, right at the moment of his vote, defending his, and our, freedoms. Another one is investigating the possibility of the impeachment of President Bush. Now, we need to look long and hard at these members of the House. Are these the people we want to represent us, to form our laws and protect our nation??? There were also 21 members who answered, "present", rather that voting. This merely is a polite way of abstaining from the vote. The Democratic Party does not want this war to go well. The Democratic Party wants to see a blood bath with massive destruction and loss of life. They do not want to see a Republican administration succeed in bringing peace and freedom to Iraq. They want to see President Bush fail and they want it desperately. That means many dead U.S. and allied troops and the success of Saddam Hussein. And let's not forget Mr. Daschle's ugly words this past week. I'm still waiting for his apology, one that, most likely, won't come. I don't like to say someone is absolutely wrong, but this time, Mr. Daschle is. The miserable failure of diplomacy is the total and complete fault of the French government and President Chirac. How could Mr. Daschle have shown his face in the Oval Office on Friday morning for a briefing? The President has more emotional control than I could possibly muster, to have sat there with Mr. Daschle. The DNC sent out e-mails to their members encouraging them to stand behind Mr. Daschle's comments. The Dems tactics are beyond belief these days. Yet Saturday, in the Democrats radio address, Daschle had the unmitigated gall to say, "Today, a quarter of a million Americans are in the Persian Gulf, risking their lives to disarm Saddam Hussein. Our nation is united in gratitude and respect for them and in support for our commander in chief." It makes me so angry to hear him say that after his remarks earlier this week. President Chirac is still at his game of sabotaging American policy and strength. President Chirac has ruined the integrity of the U.N. and the E.U. He has made both look completely foolish. Neither of these bodies has told Chirac to sit down and shut up. Chirac also tried to tie the hands of NATO, but with very little result, thank goodness. France is still trying to broker a deal with the U.N. for control of Iraq after the war is over. "France will not accept a resolution that would legitimize military intervention and give the US and British the powers of administration in Iraq," Chirac said in a news conference following the European Union summit in Brussels. In a conversation at this summit, Prime Minister Tony Blair and Chirac had a heated discussion that many refer to as a shouting match. France is also brokering a deal to allow for the exile of Saddam in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, a country in northwestern Africa that is mostly dessert, much of which results from deforestation. The unemployment rate is 21% and 50% of the population live in poverty. Just so you'll know, Mauritania gained its independence from FRANCE in 1960. I really do not like the idea of exiling Saddam. Sending him to a poverty stricken nation, which has fought slavery for most of its history, is not a very good idea. Who is to say that Saddam cannot run Iraq by remote control and set himself up to rule not only his homeland, but also Mauritania? Why is France so set upon doing all it can to undermine the U.S.? What is the motive? We have heard many possible motives but what is the truth? Will we find that France has supported Saddam for decades? Will we find that France has used their allegiance to Saddam as protection against terror attacks? Have they aligned with Iraq to indirectly fight against the U.S.? We have found out much since the war began. GPS jammers came from a Russian company as well as Iraqi officials having contact with that company in the last two weeks. Night vision goggles are in the possesion of the Iraqis - yes, from Russia. Saddam's bunkers are most definitely German productions. Saddam most undeniably has SCUD missiles, along with others; he was not supposed to possess. Some are anti-tank missiles from - yes, Russia. There have been coalition attacks on a terrorist camp with true ties to Al Qaeda. Tonight, U.S. and allied forces searching for Saddam's weapons of mass destruction have found a suspicious chemical plant. Interesting news, but no surprise to me. There have been no chemical, biological, or nuclear attacks as of yet. There are many possibilities as to why this hasn't happened. We could believe Dr. Blix, who said Saddam wouldn't do that. Or, we could remember that the inspectors left Iraq rather quickly and we began the war just as quickly. Saddam didn't have time to get the missiles and the warheads together in order to launch these types of attacks. But, I lean more toward the fact that all the chemical, biological, and nuclear devices are still on those three cargo ships that are floating around in international waters. We certainly have not heard anymore about these ships and media have forgotten about them. I'm sure our military still has an eye on them. But what should we really be thinking about now? Remember our troops who have gone into harms way to save us. Think about it tonight when you crawl into your nice warm bed. Think about it when you sip your coffee in the morning. When you begrudgingly take off and go to work, think about what our troops are facing. Appreciate what they are doing and the lives they have left behind. They have families; they have plans for their future. Some have lost their future today in the sands of Iraq, fighting to free a nation, and the world, from the most brutal dictator of our time. Think about what those soldiers being held as POW's are going through. Think about what those who were murdered today faced. These proud men and women have earned our gratitude and respect in the noblest way possible - by giving their lives for their brothers and sisters. Their families deserve just as much gratitude for their sacrifice. The members of all our military forces deserve the same honor and respect we give our fire fighters, our police forces, and all our first responders. They are all heroes - all of them! Tonight, and every night, I pray for my special friends and family members in service to our nation, whether they serve right here in my small town or if they serve in Iraq or Afghanistan. I, as well, pray for each and every one, wherever they may be, just as diligently, I just don't know their names. Don't go protest this war for it is quite just. Don't second-guess what our President has decided to do to protect this nation or to free and safeguard other nations. Our President did not make this decision willingly or without searching his heart. Our President pressed for every other option. But time was pressing down hard on him and the entire situation was becoming more and more unreasonable and muddled with diplomacy rather than solved with diplomacy. The possibility of attack on our homeland was becoming much too certain with all time that was being invested in this false and corrupt diplomacy. True diplomacy died not long after 1441 was unanimously passed. President Bush saw that and we should be thankful for it. Think very carefully about where your loyalty is given. Draw your lines between right and wrong carefully and try to keep the gray area between them small. Keep your faith and know your God, by whatever name you call on. Listen to the call of Love. You don't have to strain your ears to hear it for it comes from within your heart. Open up your heart so you can know that Love flowing from it. What lies within you is stronger and truer than any power in the world, including the power of any dictator or any nation. Don't just "say" your prayers tonight - "PRAY" them. You ask what that means? It means to put your heart into them, to make those prayers REAL! Don't just say empty words. Put some LOVE behind them, and if you shed a tear, or two, or more, then they are real! Shortie 03-23-03 |
