   Below you will find some of the terminology that the SCPIR uses in both investigations and in the conclusions of evidence reports that are given to our clients/informants.  Attached to some you will find excerpts from our field journal

Residual Haunting/Imprint: Any haunting that is non-interactive.  A type of haunting that replays like tape.

Reciprocal Haunting: Classical idea of ghost.  Conscious form that interacts with changes in the environment. 

Poltergeist: Type of haunting that exhibits noises and movement of objects centered around individual.  Usually female adolescent.

Entity: Non-human spirit that was never human.  Varies depending on circumstances of entity.  Glaistig is one example.

Vortex: Type of paranormal phenomena that acts as doorway or fountain of high energy associated with paranormal occurences

Warp: Type of phenomena that distorts all magnetic and electric fields around source.  Sometimes associated with Retro-cognition

EMF/ Electro-Magnetic Field: Invisible energy field that surrounds all electrical objects (in AC) and natural sources (in DC).

EM Smog: Excessive EMF produced by electronics and wiring within a home or environment.

RF. Radio Frequency: Type of invisible energy field that occurs in waves often associated with artificial sources such as cellphones and 2-way-radios

IR Infra-Red: Type of energy that is given off as a light-form and heat.  Utilized for night-vision equipment and measured for temperature changes.

Vigil: Form of investigation that involves setting up stationary monitoring equipment for an investigaiton that usually lasts 3 hours or more.

Walkthrough: Form of investigation that involves using portable monitoring equipment  exclusively that usually lasts 2 hours or less.

Orb: Photographic term for transparent or luminescent circular phenomena found on 'paranormal' pictures.

Ectoplasm: Photographic term for a semi-transparent mist like phenomena found in paranormal photos.  Original definition of term associated with early spiritualism movement as a physical form of ghostly manifestations. (always a hoax)

Anomaly: Any deviations in evidence.

Spike: Any reading in EMF, RF or IR that reads above or below the baseline reading for an environment

Retro-Cognition: Psychic ability to see into the past.  Often assocaited with warps for those with limited psychic ability.

Empathic: Psychic ability to draw information from the environment.
