ALEX

Alexandria is a strange place. It has a more European feel than Egyptian.  There is a big French feel in town. Once home to Cleopatra and the greatest library in the world, now one chique town.

Alex, is only a couple of hours North of Cairo. It's a great place to walk around, especially as there are some great coffee shops in town. It's also the stopping off point for the long trip to Siwa.

Amphitheatre

Right near the railway station is an amphitheatre. It is still is being excavated and will be for quite a few years to come.

Alex has a Med. feel to it in the Winter, ie. it's quite cold, but in the Summer it's a welcome relief from the heat of Cairo. It seems that all of Egypt decends on Alex. during the Summer for their holidays. The beaches are extremely crowded.

One of the best to see in Alex are the Catacombs. They were found quite by accident when a cart fell into a hole in the ground. After excavation they discovered a warren of burial chambers.
