The medical applications of self hypnosis have been numerous and well-documented. The most popular perhaps is pain mangement. Patients who suffer from chronic pain, may embark on a hypnosis program to minimize the suffering, and diminsh the terrible effect that pain has on their lives. Self hypnosis has been used in succesfully limiting the pain associated with childbirth, as well. Other medical uses include combatting pregnancy morning sickness, attention deficit disorder, sustance abuse, smoking cessation, and more. With the advent of the customized Internet hypnosis, yet another area of medical hypnosis, patient compliance, has become possible. The physician may actually prescribe a patient-created hypnosis to include a specific regime of patient behavior designed to hasten healing. Also meant to encourage patient cooperation, and thus speed the healing process, is the use of hypnosis before, during, and after surgery. |
