Arrived about 11.30am to receive a welcoming greeting from Robert Ross and Morris Bright. I was pointed in the direction of a special Santa who was Norman Mitchell. I was very nervous and excited knowing I'm meeting the people who have made me laugh so many times. What a treat.
We all went into the ballroom where everyone went straight to the Memorabilia table which had some good stuff for people's collections. During lunch I stood there in a daze as I saw Jack Douglas walk through the room. He went and sat down taking autographs and photos during lunch. It was great. After lunch we were all moved into the theatre room where a quick introduction was done by Rob and Morris and Jack was introduced. We then had a screening of 'Carry On Behind' and Jack got a strong round of applause when he came on screen. After the film we got a quick break then Jack gave us a question and answer session hosted by Rob Ross. Then Jack did a auction which had some excellent memorabilia in it but the prices were out of my league for the items I would have liked.
Sadly Jack had to leave at 4pm to go on to do a TV show but wow! it was great to meet the guy. We had a tea, coffee break afterwards. Where I went outside with Chris and Tinny from the Carry On mailing list and my mate Vince for a group photo outside Pinewood.
We then had another screening of rare footage of a Christmas special and trailers for the films. Which was good. Pasty Rowlands was due on stage next but was running very late so to fill in the time Norman Mitchell, Brian Rawlinson and Huge Fletcher took to the stage once again. They all seemed great guys who had a great time making the films. And Norman made a great Santa.
Eventually Patsy arrived. She came across as a very normal down to earth person. She also had a question and answer session like Jack. And the fans threw some great questions at her. Alexandra Dane turned up during this.
After the session Dinner was served. Peter Rogers and the lovely Audrey had turned up. Peter came round during Dinner and gave autographs to the fans. What a great guy; he said its the fans day. He didn't want us queuing up, so he would come to us. I went and got Alexandra Dane's autograph and i have to say she's a lovely person. ( in case you wondering who she is she played Busty in Khyber ) What a lovely lady. Poor Patsy was swamped with people after her autograph and I was one of them. Rob and Morris came round the tables giving each and every guest a small bag of pressies which included a Yo-Yo some book marks and a stick of rock and for those lucky ones some had a video in them. The dinner was lovely.
Then it was a quick viewing of clips of all the films and Peter Rogers' turn to answer some question which he did a fine job doing. He got quite emotional about all the fans which was very touching. I think he's so taken a back at how popular the films still are. He gave a great talk. And we were even introduced to his dog. Then sadly it was the end. Well I know I didn't want to go home. But himself, Pasty etc were all at the bar afterwards so I stayed for a drink along with other fans. What a fantastic day the best day I have ever had. I thanked Audrey for all the help she gives us as she's great woman. I went home a very happy excited person last night. Star struck! Roll on next year! The funny thing was all through out the day I was shaking from nerves and excitement but as soon as I left the building I stopped.
And I have to say full credit to Rob Ross and Morris Bright for a fabulous day. I don't think there was one person there who didn't enjoy themselves. A really great day out. I hope I can make it to the next!. |
