Personal History

Garghu was born in the year 1478 of the Fourth Age into a family of minor nobility in the city of Walji on Vallum. Due to his families position, he received a better than average education.

During his schooling, his instructors, from the local Phed temple, discovered his closeness to the gods. They tested him for suitability as a cleric to one of the gods. At this time it was discovered that he was hated by Demons to the point that they would attack him before any others.

Because of the hatred of the Demons, it was decided that one of the more peaceful gods would be best. Garghu always liked the idea of helping people so he chose to follow the teachings of Kiralt.

During his training in the Kiralt temple, Garghu specialized in psychiatry (he knows everyone is crazy) along with the normal healing arts of Kiralt. After his graduation, Garghu set out to follow the way of Kiralt by traveling as a wandering healer. To help pay the costs of his education, and to help the temples and Houses of Healing, Garghu tithes 20% of all his income to the temple.

As a follower of Kiralt, Garghu is bound to help those in need. This does not mean that he works for free. Followers of Kiralt are bound to help, but they also charge all the market will bear. In some cases, such as poor farmers, they may charge as little as a meal, or a chicken. In other cases, such as rich nobility they may charge thousands of Aurics. The way it is usually put is, "Open your purse and repeat after me 'Help Yourself'".

Garghu has recently come out of retirement and is now in search of a legendary red bear. He recently encountered a red bear pelt, and decided he wanted one for himself.

The hunt for the bear is just a cover story, in actuality, Garghu is searching for a cure to a plague that is ravaging the area around Blueturtle.

After several weeks of adventuring, Garghu and his companions encountered a red bear, Garghu now has his pelt, but refuses to talk about it. During the weeks leading up to the encounter with the bear, Garghu and his friends successfully rescued two of Garghu's relatives from an ingathering of goblins, and have sent a Mir sword hunt after the goblins. After that they got trapped in the city of Pien, which they later escaped by doing major damage to the bad guys who controlled the city.

After leaving the ruins of Pien, the group has traveled further north, eventually stopping in Meng.  In Meng the party had a sword, one of the famous Zixel Swords, they found taken by the local authorities.  After leaving the city, certain members of the party arranged for the return of the sword.  Partly as a result of this, the party was accused of killing the local Duke.  Traveling fast the party crossed the border of Aman to relative safety.  During their travels in Aman there have been two different attempts to kill members of the party by assassins.

After many days of travel, Garghu and his companions reached Adranya where they had a very unpleasant encounter with an insane psychic.  After escaping with their lives, and buying a flying carpet (of course some members of the party were upset that the "bed companion" wasn't bought) they traveled on towards Zem.

Garghu's Family

Garghu is one of four children born to Garbalt III, Viscount of the River Sclar, and his wife Janghu. He has two brothers, Garbalt IV and Golbak and a sister named Jarigh.

His father was named Viscount of the River Sclar after winning a series of battles against raiders from the inlands of Vallum. These raids continued for many years before Garbalt was named commander of the local forces. After a couple of minor skirmishes, the attacks picked up and Garbalt organized a series of ambushes that wiped out the raiding forces. Since this time, only the occasional group of troglodytes have attacked the area around Walji.
