The Story of Rumblat IV
of the House of Splat
or how I went from being shot to fighting demons in one shot

Rumblat IV, who was born with the name Trilbat, is a goblin. He was born and raised on Mrazak. When he was very young, he accidentally fell into a cauldron that contained a slightly failed alchemical concoction, as a result he is able to wither plants with a touch, this has gotten him cursed by a Navanya cleric. It did also work as planned and gave him the ability to see invisible things or creatures.

At the age of 14, when he either had to get a wife and help on the family fungus farm or leave home, Trilbat, not liking the idea of shoveling fungus fertilizer all day long, joined a goblin mercenary company, The House of Splat, that specializes in siege warfare. They trained him to work with the longest ranged of all the weapons, the Trebuchet, his particular trebuchet was named Rumblat. Because he was the fourth goblin on the ammunition squad attached to Rumblat, Trilbat was renamed Rumblat IV. During his training, he was given several special abilities that were designed to help him in his job as ammunition. The first was a spell that allowed him to land softly, he must fall at least 30 feet in 1g (9.8 m/s2). He can use this ability once every two days. The second was the ability to cause darkness in a 30' diameter sphere.

During his training he was also trained in the use of single handed weapons, usually a club or dagger, and hurled missiles, with a preference towards the sling. These weapons were chosen to make sure they didn't break on landing, or that they could be readily found if he got separated from his own.

After a couple of years of training and a few successful jobs under his belt, during which time he advanced from Rumblat XXIV to Rumblat IV, the House of Splat was hired to lay siege to a city containing a Maxwell temple. During the height of the siege, the house of Splat fired their best ammunition into the city in an attempt to have them open the doors from the inside. The trebuchet that fired Rumblat IV was aimed too high, and Rumblat IV landed in the courtyard of the local Maxwell temple. At about this time, the defenders of the city were able to lift the siege when reinforcements arrived from a neighboring city. As a result of this, Rumblat IV was left behind in the retreat.

After the battle was finished, one of the local priests to Maxwell, the Bringer of Light, noticing that Rumblat had a very strong Ego and Theurgy and recommended him for training in the teachings of Maxwell. The clerics got him released from his contract with the House of Splat, and then began teaching him the way of Maxwell. This went on for two years before he was ordained as a priest to Maxwell and given the name of an Imp that he could summon.

Rumblat's primary training in the Maxwell temple was in comparative religion. His secondary training was in demonology and summonings. This training has put him in good stead with the other gods for calling in favors, or making bargains.

Rumblat IV, who kept the name given him by the House of Splat, then spent the next year traveling around as a wandering teacher. Not much happened during this time and Rumblat came to enjoy teaching others in the knowledge of Maxwell and the other gods. Despite his background, he has almost never had dealings with either Gazlar or Grabben.

One day while walking down the streets of Blueturtle, Rumblat was assaulted and captured by a group of troglodytes. They then took him and several others to be sacrificed. After having been "sacrificed", Rumblat awoke on an island on a very strange and most likely distant planet. This planet has approx. 1/4 the gravity of Argilla, and a very close moon that causes massive tides. The people on this planet speak strangely, and worship Barnack, the Lord of Life. From various things that Rumblat has picked up, he may also be very far in the future.

After several months of wandering around this world, and one of its moons, Rumblat and his companions where able to open a vortex and return themselves to their proper place and close to the proper time. His time on this strange planet also allowed him to learn a new language, and a few of its written forms.

Since his return to Argilla, Rumblat has been traveling around the world teaching the ways of Maxwell.
