5/05/03 Red Shoes by Elvis Costello Elvis Costello is, in my opinion, the coolest man alive. He has the coolest voice, the coolest glasses, the coolest additude, etc. This is one of my favorite songs of his. Its a nice little upbeat song with really cool lyrics. Elvis Costello could take the sappiest song and just make it seem so cool. I've got proof: He did an entire c.d. of Burt Bacharach songs, which is the sappiest of sappy music, and made it sound cool. So enjoy this cool song by a cool guy! Motivation Proclamation by Good Charlotte No, I have NOT turned into a Good Charlotte fan, I'm just putting this song up in honor of Edgefest. I didn't like any of the bands there at ALL, but I had a really good time, (yes Matt, I really did!) This song is from like 3 years ago, when Good Charlotte wasn't quite as famous and they were a hell of a lot cuter. It's a catchy song, and thats really the only good thing I can say about it. 5/23/03 Drown by Smashing Pumpkins This song is beautiful. I love it. 5/2/5/03 That's the Way by Led Zeppelin Something about this song really gets me. It just gives me chills. Listen to it now. 5/28/03 The Wind by Cat Stevens Another song from the Almost Famous soundtrack (great c.d. by the way and amazing movie) I don't know what part of the movie it's from though....Everyone should see that movie. There's this one great scene where this little boy's sister is leaving home and before she leaves she says "Look under your bed. It will set you free". And he looks under his bed and finds a bag stuffed with records. Simon and Garfunkel, The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds", The Beatles, Joni Mitchell's "Blue", Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Cream, etc. It's such a cool scene because that's what music does. It sets us free. (I have a still from that scene up there ^^^) So this is my all time favorite Cat Stevens song. It's very peaceful and calming. It makes me happy and it reminds me of summer. SUMMER'S HERE!!!! 5/28/03 All Right Now by Free Good 'ol road trip rock and roll. 5/9/03 Northern Sky by Nick Drake I just got back from a trip to Arizona where I saw the Grand Canyon. Lets just say the Grand Canyon is not too exciting. Yeah, it is quite a large hole, but there's just not a whole lot to do there. At least during the day... But at night you step outside and you look up and you can see stars. And it was the most breathtaking thing I've ever seen. It was just amazing to sit on the edge of the canyon with Nick Drake in my cd player and just look out over the canyon and up at the stars and feel the wind at my back. This song is officially the perfect Grand Canyon stargazing music. 6/14/03 All You Need is Love by the Beatles There's not a whole lot to say about this song. It says pretty much everything anyone would ever need to know. I forgot what a great song this was until last night when one of my friends was talking about it.... 6/15/03 Change by Blind Melon I've always loved this band, and this is such a great song. I love the line "And when your deepest thoughts are broken/keep on dreaming boy/ cause when you stop dreamin' it's time to die." There is so much truth in that. Blind Melon was very very very much influenced by the Velvet Underground, and that influence really shows through in the guitar solo in this song. It's very Lou Reed-ish. But anyway, great song. Rock on. Rest in peace and love and music Shannon! 6/16/03 Try a Little Tenderness by Otis Redding *Sigh* I love soul....This is a grrrrreat song. I can't even explain it. Whenever "Pretty in Pink" is on t.v. I have to sit and watch until the scene where Duckie lip synchs this song is over. They don't make music like this anymore. It's passionate and above all things.... soulful. 6/19/03 Hey! You've Got to Hide You Love Away This is the best song ever, at least that's how it seems to me today. No one should ever sing this song because they will never ever be able to sing it like John Lennon. No offense to the singers of the world, but John Lennon was a genius and only he can sing this song. Is that understood? Good. Oh, by the way, if you get this song off of Kazaa, get the one off of "Anthology 2", not "Help!". Why, you ask? Because at the beginning you can hear a glass break and then you hear John go "Paul's broken a glass, broken a glass a glass a glass he's broke today". And I dunno, I think it's kind of cool. I like hearing John's funny little Liverpool accent and you should too. 6/19/03 Every Picture Tells a Story by Rod Stewart Yet another song from the Almost Famous soundtrack. I'm not a big Rod Stewart fan, but this is a really great song. It makes me wanna dance or drive or dance while driving. (Yes, I am aware that I am not only cheesy, but crazy) Anyway, good, if not long, song. 7/3/03 If I Fell by the Beatles Another Beatles' song. I'm sorry, but I adore this band. The other day I was in an absolutely terrible mood and I watched their movie "A Hard Day's Night" and I was instantly a million times happier. The Beatles just have that effect on me. So watch the movie, this song is from the soundtrack. 7/21/03 She Talks to Angels by the Black Crowes Mmmmm...such a good song. It's my new favorite. And thats all I have to say about that. 7/23/02 Black Star by Radiohead God, such a beautiful song. Its one of the saddest songs I've ever heard, but I just love love love it. I adore Radiohead. 7/24/03 Baba O'Riley by the Who I can't even explain to how much I love this song. There are so many different elements and instruments and layers to it. Definitely the best Who song ever. p.s. Most people think that it's called Teenage Wasteland, but its not! 7/25/03 Maybe I'm Amazed by Paul McCartney Paul wrote this song about his wife Linda. They had the most amazing relationship. In their 30 years of marriage, with all the tours and press and groupies and all the other crazy stuff that went along with being a Beatle, they never ever spent even one night apart. Can you imagine what it must be like to love someone that much? Anyway, this is a beautiful song. Definitely the best song Paul McCartney did after the Beatles. 7/29/03 Let You Down by Dave Matthews Band Matt, I'm really and truly sorry! Never, ever again.... 8/02/03 Unfold by Jason Mraz So Tracy and I went to the Jason Mraz/Liz Phair concert last night. Liz Phair was incredib;y boring live. She's definitely better just as a recording artist. But Jason Mraz...mmmmm....he has such an amazing, rich voice. And I can't remember which song it was (maybe I'll Do Anything? or So Unusual?), but he started singing "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera and he sang it a hindred million times better than her. It was great great great. But this song is my favorite. It really shows what a wooooonderful voice he has and really great songwriting capabilites. And for all of you who just see Jason Mraz as that cheesy guy who sings "the Remedy" in a trucker's hat, I really encourage you to take another look, because he has a lot of talent and his music is real. p.s. Tracy and I decided that the best thing to be is Jason Mraz's guitar.... 8/9/03 Just Like Heaven by the Cure The eighties were great. The Cure was great. This song is great. 8/20/03 If You Want Blood by Guns and Roses I made a special cd for driving to school in the morning and this is the first song on it. It hypes me up. AND it was from Empire Records, one of the best movies EVEEERRRR!!!! 8/22/03 Rock and Roll EGA by Daniel Johnston Yet another song from Empire Records. Great lyrics. It describes how I feel about music and the Beatles in particular. *sigh* Music is my lifesaver. 9/6/03 Which Will by NIck Drake This song is....ok, I have no words to describe it. It's just pure beauty. (I sound so corny, but I don't care.) I honestly don't know if I could live without Nick Drake. And isn't that picture great? It looks like how life should be, alone with a guitar in one hand and a book in the other. 9/11/03 Place to Be by Nick Drake Two Nick Drake songs in a row...woohooo.. 9/14/03 Foolish Love by Rufus Wainwright This is amazing. Its like 5 songs in one. There's so many different elements. Its not your basic verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus song. His voice is so different and cool. Aaaaah...it makes me happy. All that and Rufus Wainwright is absolutely beautiful. So enjoy this. 9/17/03 Gypsy by Suzanne Vega Me and Brandi listened to this song this morning in the parking lot before we went into school. Listening to this song makes you want to tell the truth and be open about things, which was good for me and Brandi. It's calming and reassuring. Me and Brandi discovered this song when I made a cd of the songs listed in the book "The Perks of Being a Wallflower". Very pretty song. 9/18/03 Time After Time by Chet Baker I've been really into jazz lately, especially Miles Davis and Chet Baker. This song is just perfect. Sinatra did a good version of it, but I just adore Chet Baker. His voice is so smooth and he is, of course, an amazing trumpet player. You're probably thinking I'm a loser, because I really don't know many people my age who listen to this kind of music. I guess I'm just a weird one...But if you want some good instrumental jazz listen to Miles Davis' "It Never Entered My Mind". 9/21/03 Take Me to the River by the Talking Heads This is a good song. Yeah. Listen to the Talking Heads. It'll make you happy. |
