New York State Open Records Network
identité, intimité, égalité
Data sese liberari volunt.

Our purpose:

to change New York state's laws so they will permit all adults as a matter of right to access upon request those government documents which pertain to their historical, genetic, and legal identity, including their own uncensored and unaltered original or amended birth records, without condition and regardless of the reason for amendment.

"Access to such information should not be thwarted by shrouding it with the cloak of secrecy or confidentiality."

The Open Records Network does not support compromises to this effort that would allow biological parents to veto disclosure of their names on the birth certificate, or to veto contact by placing the adult adoptee under a restraining order without show of cause (contact veto system) and the Open Records Network will directly campaign against such compromises.  The Open Records Network does not support mandated mutual consent registries nor mandated intermediary systems in place of fully open records, nor any other system that does not grant adults access to their own original birth records without compromise and without qualification.

This group shall be modeled after the example of other such state groups as :

As proven by the examples of Alabama and Oregon, unconditional access for adults is possible; it is possible in New York, and it is a goal towards which we should be working.
