In the year 2000, a catastrophic
event known as the Second Impact wiped out
half the world's population and melted all the
ice in Antarctica. According to the UN, it was a giant meteorite, but there
were many rumors that said otherwise.
It is now year 2015.
Mysterious entities called Angels started to appear, causing mayhem to the
remaining population. All conventional weapons proved useless against them,
including the UN's key weapon, the N2 bomb, because a mysterious field
protects the Angels.
The only weapon that
can penetrate this mysterious field, are biological gaints who obtain simular
field, they are the Evangelions. These gaints requires the control of a pilot
by synchronizing the pilot's mind within. Thus, the pilot's senses extend into
the Evangelions. Only a select group of children born after the Second Impact
have the capability to synch with the Evangelions. They are destined to
protect humanity from the very beginning....

Genesis Evangelion (Shinseiki Evangelion) is Anno Hideaki's greatest
creation, which caused a major impact to the Anime world. It began as a
TV-Series developed and found its way to the movies, the comic books,
games, albums and even live concerts were held in desperate demands of
millions of fans around the world.

- Why is it so successful?
At
your first glance, Evangelion may just seems to be another sci-fi story,
but there is much more than that. The characters have profound
personalities, who faces everyday problems as anyone else and concern
themselves with philosophical / religious themes. In fact, the whole
Evangelion project deals with the existence of mankind and its
evolution.

- What makes it so interesting?
Evangelion
is valued by many fans by its plot, which hosts connections to
metaphysical and religious theories, ancient prophecies and supernatural
mysteries. Even the fundamental basics of reality lose their value. God
and Creation are viewed from an never before seen angle, implying man's
attempts to become god himself. Evangelion is a very unique creation,
which made a name even among people who usually do not watch anime.
By
looking at the name, you may know that this anime has religious stuff in it.
It's plot is the most interesting and most complicated plot in a anime that
I've ever seen. When you first watch it, you might not understand it
completely, but when you go on the internet and look for more detailed
information (like I did), then you realized how deep is the plot.
One of it's main plot was that man kind wants to surpass the power of God.
