Lucky thought the house was a little too silent. Something was going on. Elizabeth was supposed to be home and yet, the lights were closed. He put his cane on the doorway and pushed the door open.
"-Hello? Anybody home? Elizabeth?"
Lucky heard a little giggle and he knew something was up. He was about to yell again when he heard "SURPRISE" from everywhere in the living room. Lucky laughed as the lights opened and he saw Nikolas coming in from the kitchen with Emily and their 1 year old daughter Paige, he saw his mother and father getting down the stairs with his sister, Bobbie, Jerry and Lucas. He saw Carly, Michael and Jason out of a closet, Sonny came from the backyard with Alexis, Audrey and Sarah. But still, Elizabeth was nowhere to be seen. Lucky heard stumbling, like someone was coming his way running and he smiled when he saw his nearly three year old son jump in his arms.
"-Hey Zach! How are you my boy?
-Were you surprised Daddy? They are all here for your birthday. Mommy and grandma Laura gave me chocolate all week so I wouldn't spill the surprise! The boy said, smiling
-Yeah we had to bribe him a couple of times"
Lucky's eyes left his son's face and saw his wife two feet from him, smiling. She was wearing this beautiful summer dress, with sandals on her feet. Lucky put his son down and slowly kissed his wife. Luke approached and pushed them away from each other, saying they came here to party, not see a make out session. Zach giggled and jumped on his grandfather's legs, begging Luke to pick him up. Lucky looked around, still amazed on how his family was growing fast. His cousin Lucas was already 11 years old, going on 12, his sister Lesley Lu would be 9 by the end of the summer, Michael was 5 and a half and Zach, his own son, would be 3 in a month. He turned 21 last night.
Getting him out of his thoughts, everyone came and hugged him to wish him a happy birthday. Michael was playing with Lucky's cane, and Jason lectured him. Lucky laughed, saying history was repeating itself, because every time Lucky and Michael saw each other, it was always the same thing. Michael would play with the cane, and Jason would lecture him. Carly laughed and slapped her cousin in the back.
Ever since his accident, Lucky never got his left leg back. To move even two feet he needed his cane, because the leg was dead and hard. Nikolas had never been able to walk again, but he adjusted his condition to his life, and he was happy with Emily despite his handicap. They used to joke about how the Cassadine/Spencer war was going to leave them like war amps, but, in a way, they were, even though it had nothing to do with the war.
Lucky hugged Emily, before taking Paige in his arms. He was just in love with his Goddaughter, and he was aching not to be able to have more children. Paige had her mother's eyes, but the rest was purely Cassadine, even her temper, was a lot like her grandfather Stefan. She was a little unsociable, and, every time Luke tried to take her and hold her she would scream her head off and he would joke, saying Nikolas was raising her to hate the Spencers and Nikolas would answer "Not the Spencers, just you Luke" before cracking up with his stepfather.
Laura held her son close to her heart, not able to understand how he grew up so fast.
"-Mom, let go, other people are waiting in line to kiss the wonderful Lucky Spencer"
Laura laughed and kissed him one last time. Bobbie held him close and, like his mother, she didn't want to let him go. Lucky said the same thing to her and when Jerry came close, Lucky laughed, saying he was not taking chances anymore, and he gave his "uncle" his hand.
Elizabeth had already started going through the guests, with stuff to eat, helped by Emily and Carly. Lucky was looking at her, knowing something was different about her, but couldn't tell what. She was glowing, always laughing. And that was bugging Lucky, big time.
Not that they weren't happy, they were. They had a good life, he had a good job, as head of the computer system for a security agency in town, while Elizabeth was working with the Woman's help center. Zach was going to Carly's daycare center, with his little cousin Paige. Lucky would not trade one moment, one minute he spent with Elizabeth for anything, anything in the world. He always kid Zach, saying he would trade him for a handful of quarters. The little Spencer would then laugh at his dad, saying;
"-Come on dad, you know I'm adorable!"
Getting his parents to crack up, and Lucky cursing at the fact that Zach spent way too much time with his Uncle Nikolas.
"-Earth to Lucky! He heard, and smiled at his wife
-I'm sorry, I was re-living my life. I'm old you know
-Yeah, you are a really old and bitter man, Elizabeth said, laughing
-You aren't much younger than me Mrs. Spencer. A couple of months, that's it!
-Yeah but at least I'm still beautiful!"
Lucky smiled at her, and kissed her. He was still so much in love with her. Everyday he thanked God for his Elizabeth, his angel. Sure they'd fight as times, he even spent a couple of nights on the couch, before Zach had his bunk beds, but they always found their way back to each other. And Lucky was happy that they were still each other's best friend. They were still doing what they decided to do when they were teens, talked about their day while cooking diner, and listened to Zach while they ate. They still had problems kissing each other goodnight without having it turned into a love session.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Zach was helping Liz clean up, while Lucky was sitting on the couch, getting his presents organized. He was feeling guilty not to help them, but his leg was hurting. Each time Elizabeth came back in the living room she had this smile on her face, and she would kiss Lucky. He was even more curious at what was going on, but he knew he had to wait until Zach was in bed before she would talk.
Finally, Lucky kissed his son goodnight, while Elizabeth took him up. Zach was half asleep but still saying he wasn't tired. Even if the boy said that every night, Lucky was still laughing out loud. Elizabeth came back down a couple of minutes later, grinning from ear to ear.
"-Care to tell me why you are so happy? Asked Lucky
-I just love you that's all
-I know you better than that Elizabeth. Either you tell me of your own will, or I'll tickle it out of you
-Ok, Ok, but consider this your ultimate birthday present. I'm pregnant! She said, her smile so big it almost touched her ears.
-Is this some kind of a sick joke? Lucky was mad
-What do you mean, I thought you would be ecstatic
-Oh yeah, I'm really happy that my wife is having another man's baby!
-Another man's baby? Lucky, this is your baby
-Elizabeth, honey, in case you forgot, I'm STERILE!"
Lucky got up and looked at her, tears of frustration in his eyes. That was why she was glowing. Who was he? A guy she worked with? A friend he didn't know about? He was about to throw up at the next thought. Nikolas?
"-Lucky please, don't do this,
-Don't do what? Tell the truth? I mean, this has got to be it, what else could it be, I haven't been able to procreate for nearly 4 years now, and you are trying to tell me that, miraculously, this is my child?
-It is your child. Lucky, no man beside you has ever touched me. Never. You and.... you and Tom, that's it
-And I'm supposed to believe that?"
Lucky went to the door and opened it with a bang.
"-Where are you going?
-Out, clear my head, kill someone, I don't know!"
Lucky got in his car and drove off. He would find that bastard, and bash his head in. He should've known something big would blow up in his face. Always did. But this time he thought the curse on his head was gone for good. After all, they spent 3 years and a half happy and close. Elizabeth and Zach were the best things in his life, and now he would lose his son and Elizabeth. Elizabeth, yet again.
Lucky spent more than 3 hours driving around, calming himself down, before returning home. He was determined to go to the bottom of this. He was positive it couldn't be his child, after all, they had been making love without protection for 3 years, since after Zach was born, and she never been pregnant, and now, all of a sudden, she was. He would make her say who was the father, wether she liked it or not.
Lucky opened the door, stumbled upon something, and fell flat on his face, cursing out loud. Elizabeth ran down the stairs to see what was happening. Lucky got up and opened the light to see what was in his way and his heart Broke
"-Why is my stuff all packed Elizabeth?
-You don't want to believe me, that's fine, then get out of here. I am tired of fighting Lucky, I fought all my life. I thought, of all people, you would never doubt me, but I was wrong so just go! I don't want my son to grow up with parents bitter to each other. I'll let you know through your mother when you can come and pick Zach up for a week-end
-Elizabeth...
-GO! Get out!"
Before Lucky could say anything else she was gone upstairs and he was alone, in the middle of his stuff, with tears slowly coming down his face.
