Chapter 22

"-Lucky? What are you doing here at this hour?

-Mom, think I can crash here tonight? Elizabeth kicked me out"

Laura got away from the door so that her son could get in. He had a backpack on his shoulder, another bag in his right hand, and he went back to get the guitar he left on the porch. He sat on the couch and passed a nervous hand in his hair.

"-Wanna tell me what happened? Everything seemed fine when we left.

-She's pregnant mom

-What? How?

-That's what I asked her. She says it's mine but I don't think I can believe her

-Lucky, Liz would never cheat on you

-See, that's what I thought too. But how could it be mine? I mean, you know, after the, accident, they had to proceed to a vasectomy. I asked the doctors time and time again if that could be reversed. I want another kid mom, I want it bad, but the doctor said it would not be safe, for reasons I can't even tell you cause I don't understand them myself. And now this.

-Oh Lucky! But that still doesn't tell me why she kicked you out!

-I don't know! I was mad, so I went for a drive to clear my head, and when I came back, my stuff was packed and she told me to get out. She didn't even want to work things out. Tomorrow, I'm going to see the doctor and ask him if it's possible the kid is mine

-Well, you do what you have to do, but I still think you should call her. Tonight. She wouldn't cheat on you Lucky, you are her life

-And she is mind. But I'd rather wait until I talked to the doctor before I call her.

-Ok, wanna take the couch, or you'd rather I make your old bed?

-Nah, I love this old thing. I'll be fine mom, go back to bed

-OK, I love you

-I love you too. Thanks"

Lucky leaned back and looked at the ceiling. How did his life get so messed up? And why? A couple of hours ago, he was still the happiest man of earth, and now, he was sleeping on his mother's couch after his own wife kicked him out. Why did she? That didn't make any sense to him. Why didn't she try and talk to him, make him understand?

"-Cause she is tired of fighting, she told you! He said to himself. You wanted to leave, she made you leave for good, that way she won't have to wonder when and if you're coming back"

Before he could realize it, Lucky was drifting up in a dream. He heard noises around him, wondering who could be down at this hour of the night, and, when he opened his eyes, it was morning, and everyone was already dressed! Lulu was watching television just inches away from him, and that didn't even wake him up! Looks like he was really tired. Lucky got up, kissed his sister on the head, and went in the kitchen to talk to his mother. He told her he was going to see the doctor, to find out what happened.

The doctor's secretary said he couldn't see Lucky, but the young man didn't leave until he accepted to receive him. Finally, after nearly two hours, Dr. Evans led him in his office.

"-Mr. Spencer, if you're here to have tests made again, I assure you, it won't change anything.

-My wife's pregnant

-From you? Impossible

-Are you implying my wife is having an affair?

-That's not what I meant. Mr. Spencer, you've been badly hurt in the accident, that's why we had to proceed to a vasectomy.

-Is there a chance that it was scamped?

-Not A Chance! I did the operation myself

-Well then Doctor Evans, we have a problem because my wife would never cheat on me and yet, she's pregnant. I'd like for you to run some tests so we can figure out how it's possible. And if, by a mistake, I find out that you scamped your work, I'll have to take an attorney and it just so happens my aunt is the best one around.

-Who is your aunt?

-Alexis Davis. Have you heard of her? She is the wife of Sonny Corinthos.

-The mobster?

-He doesn't like to be called that way. Anyway, even if I don't have enough ground to file for a malpractice, my uncle is the CEO of this hospital, so you better pray you did your it well, cause you'll lose your job either way.

-My God, who else is in your family and also a high member of the Port Charles community?

-I don't have much. Bobbie Spencer, the head surgical nurse here at GH, of course Luke Spencer, he's my old man, I also have Jason Morgan, Sonny's partner, he married my cousin Caroline.

-Who's left that's not in your family? Lucky could see he was nervous

-Let's see, there's the Quartermaines. Oops, Emily Quartermaine married my brother so, technically, they are family. Well the Jacks aren't, oh wrong again, Jerry Jacks married my aunt Bobbie. You could say, only the Scorpios.

-Well, Mr. Spencer, we'll proceed to your exams this afternoon, I'll go talk to my secretary."

Lucky was smiling when the doctor left the room. That was some tricks he pulled. Evans was nervous, and Lucky knew it. The door opened and Lucky saw Stefan coming in.

"-Lucky, what are you doing here?

-Well, I'm having some troubles, and I thought Doctor Evans could help me

-Mister Cassadine, I assure you, I'll go to the bottom of this! Your nephew is in good hands!

-My nephew? Asked Stefan

-Yes, Mr. Spencer here told me you would help him fire who was responsible for his wife being pregnant"

Lucky almost laughed at Stefan's shocked face.

"-Well, I'm sure we can find what the problem was without causing a scene, right Lucky?

-Of Course Uncle, I was just explaining the situation to Doctor Evans, that, in the family, we don't like people who scamps their work

-Very well, keep me posted

-I will"

Lucky came back home, crestfallen. It happened that, for some reason, the operation didn't hold out and that, against all odds, he was fertile. Once again, he broke Elizabeth's heart for nothing. He was feeling so guilty he wanted to die. Laura was saying Elizabeth would understand, as long as he made amends, and beg.

Lucky walked back and forth in the living room, trying to find a way to show Elizabeth how much he was sorry, but he honestly didn't think she could blame him for being suspicious. After all, he always thought vasectomy prevented a man from having children, but Bobbie told him earlier that, sometimes, a woman would be pregnant, because it wasn't sure at 100%.

Lucky found a way to beg, the only way he knew how. With a song. He took his guitar, and went to his house. He waited outside in the backyard for Liz to go up to their room, and started playing. He didn't sing as long as he didn't see her face in the window. It took at least 5 minutes before he finally saw her. Lucky knew she was waiting for him to go away, but saw that he wasn't and curiosity took over her being upset.

"Girl I love you

And I apologize

Still I don't know the reason

So I can't tell you why

I hurt the one I love

Made you cry

Still I know that I messed up

And it hurts me so deep inside

Oh I wish I could go back in time

So I could fix up my mistake

Make everything all right

Girl I know just what is on your mind

Wouldn't blame you if you hated me

For the rest of my life

Didn't mean to hurt you

To make you cry

Oh girl you know I really love you

And it hurts me deep inside

To know that the person that just hurt you

And made you cry

Is one who really, really loves you

And it hurts me deep inside

How could I hurt the one I love?

Oh I'm sorry and I do realize

Things will never be the same

No matter how hard I try

Cause I hurt the one I love

How could I let you down?

I know there's no other reason

Why you just fell to the ground

Oh I wish I could go back in time

So I could fix up my mistake

Make everything all right

Girl I know just what is on your mind

Wouldn't blame you if you hated me

For the rest of my life

Oh I wish I could go back in time

So I could fix up my mistake

Everything would be all right

Girl I know just what is on your mind

Wouldn't blame you if you hated me

For the rest of my life

You know I love you

I'm always thinking of you

Baby won't you be my love

Really didn't mean to go and hurt you

Didn't mean to hurt you"

Lucky saw her get away from the window frame, and he wiped the tears from his eyes. He waited about 5 minutes, before realizing he had really lost her. She wasn't opening the door to the house and to her heart, he just had to live with the fact that he went too far this time. He betrayed her trust, and she just couldn't forgive him. He turned around and started to walk away, tears going down his face again. Slowly, his guitar on his back and his cane in his hand, he opened the fence and went to his car, when he heard the house door open;

"-Your "uncle" called me and told me about your visit to his hospital"

Lucky slowly turned around and looked at her. She was so beautiful in the moonlight, her hair on her shoulder, wearing nothing else but her nightgown and slippers.

"-Yeah well, my "uncle" has a big mouth, he said with a smile

-Must run in the family, cause you do too!"

Lucky laughed out loud and she smiled. They were looking at each other, without knowing what to say. He was taking all the way back to the summer of ‘98, when he wanted to kiss her but was too chicken to do so.

"-You should get back in the house before the mosquitoes eat you alive, he said, passing a nervous hand in his hair

-Well, I really don't want to be eaten by the mosquitoes, she answered, and I don't want you to be either, that's my job."

Lucky looked at her, shaking his head, not knowing if he heard right. Elizabeth laughed at his confused face, and said;

"-Lucky, do you need me to send you a written invitation? Come in, we need to talk"
