Robert was looking at the road in front of him, singing with the song on the radio. Elizabeth was sitting by his side, eating an apple, while Kiara and Lucky were in the back seat. Lucky’s truck died and they needed a ride back to Port Charles. Robert looked in his rear view mirror and smiled.
"-Hey are you ever gonna come up for air? He asked as he saw the teens kissing
-Hey it’s not our fault you guys are too stupid to do the same
-Ow, what was that for? Elizabeth asked as Robert’s fist hit her shoulder.
-Not teaching *your* son to be polite
-Sorry but *your* son is a Spencer and since when are the Spencers polite with anyone but themselves?
-That’s my boy! Said Robert with a smile, looking in the mirror again. Ow what was that for? He asked as Liz’s fist hit his shoulder
-Encouraging *your* son not to be normal
-Boy, can you feel the love they have for me, passing me to each other like that? Asked Lucky to Kiara with a smile
-Hey, you said it yourself, he’s a Spencer. He’s never gonna be normal. That’s what makes us superior.
-Where have I heard *that* before? Asked Elizabeth with a laugh"
Robert changed the station and put it where he heard the first cord of an Elvis song. He looked at his son in the mirror and saw him get his lip up. Robert smiled when Lucky started to sing and Robert followed, changing the singer once in a while.
"(Lucky)
Baby let me be,
your lovin' Teddy Bear
(Robert)
Put a chain around my neck,
and lead me anywhere
(Lucky)
Oh let me be
(Robert)
Oh let him be
(Lucky)
Your teddy bear.
(Robert)
I don't wanna be a tiger
Cause tigers play too rough
(Lucky)
I don't wanna be a lion
'Cause lions ain't the kind
you love enough.
(Robert)
Just wanna be (Lucky doing the background vocals) your Teddy Bear
Put a chain around my neck
and lead me anywhere
Oh let me be
(Lucky)
Oh let him be
(Robert)
Your teddy bear.
(Lucky)
Baby let me be, around you every night
Run your fingers through my hair,
And cuddle me real tight
Oh let me be
(Robert)
Oh let him be
(Lucky)
Your teddy bear."
Liz and Kiara were laughing their heads off as they heard the men sing off key. The atmosphere was a light one and Robert sighed as he saw the two young adults kissing again.
"-Here we go again. Said Robert with a smile
-What can I say, there are in love. Answered Liz
-So were we but we never made out that much
-I beg your pardon? I remember us being quite lip locked at some point in time
-Ah, to be young and innocent again, said Robert with a wink to Elizabeth
-I resent that"
Robert laughed when he heard his son’s voice from the back seat. Kiara suggested they had a picnic and they stopped at a supermarket to buy some stuff to make sandwiches, some chips, sodas and other stuff. They went to a quiet park and sat on the grass, on a blanket Robert had in the trunk of his car.
"-Hey dad, open wide"
Robert looked at Lucky and opened his mouth, for his son to throw him a grape. Lucky laughed and said sorry when the grape totally missed Robert’s mouth and landed in his forehead. Lucky saw a little movement in Robert’s legs and got up. He knew he was right when he saw his father get up too and run after him. Kiara laughed when Robert helped his balance putting his hand on Elizabeth’s head, making her fall over on her back. They saw the two men struggle on the grass, when one was up the other made him fall. Both women were rooting, sometimes for Lucky, sometimes for Robert, but never for the same at the same time.
"-Hey Honey, look at this, said Lucky"
Kiara and Elizabeth turned their heads around and saw Lucky, on his feet next to Robert who was laying on his back. Robert swung his leg and made Lucky fall. Robert got up and placed a foot on his son’s chest.
"-Rule of adulthood #1: Never make an a$s of yourself in front of your wife. Said Robert."
Lucky took both his father’s ankles in his hands and pulled, making Robert hit the ground with a thud. Lucky took the same position, a foot on his father’s chest.
"-Rule of adulthood #2: Never make an a$s of a guy in front of his wife"
They started wrestling again, when Lucky decided to go to the car, parked a couple of feet from them. He took a tape from his father’s choices in the gloves compartment and threw it in the radio before turning the volume loud enough for everyone to hear. He heard an harmonica play and people laugh. It sounded home made. The he heard a young voice, but he couldn’t mistake it, his father, sing a blues like Elvis song. He smiled and listened, not seeing his mother and father blush like crazy. It seemed like the view in front of Lucky was frozen.
"The warden threw a party in the county jail
The prison band was there and they began to wail
The band was jumping and the joint began to swing
You should’ve heard those knocked out jailbird sing"
Lucky saw his father smile and take his mother’s hand to help her up. He saw him whisper something and she laughed, then he threw his arm around her waist to make her swing with him.
"Let’s rock, everybody let’s rock
Everybody in the whole cell block
Was dancing to the jailhouse rock"
Elizabeth threw both of her arms around Robert’s neck when the music was slow again and only their upper body was moving to the music, their feet planted on the ground.
"Number 47 said to number 3
You’re the cutest jailbird I ever did see
I sure would be delighted with your company
Come on and do the jailhouse rock with me"
Robert got away from Elizabeth and started swing her again, and Lucky was leaning against the hood of the car, smiling at them. Kiara went to join him and she laughed, looking at the two silly adults dancing in the middle of a green field.
"Let’s rock, everybody let’s rock
Everybody in the whole cell block
Was dancing to the Jailhouse Rock"
The music became slow and people laughed. Lucky laughed when he heard his mom sing the second line. She was the world’s worst singer from what she said.
"Let’s rock, everybody let’s rock
Everybody in the whole cell block
Was dancing to the Jailhouse Rock"
There was a big fast solo and they saw Robert and Elizabeth make this weird dance. They were laughing and looked like they made a mistake a couple of times. Robert turned to his children when he sang as loud as the radio;
"Spider Murphy played the tenor saxophone,
Little Joe was blowin' on the slide trombone.
The drummer boy from Illinois went crash, boom, bang,
The whole rhythm section was the Purple Gang.
Let's rock, everybody, let's rock.
Everybody in the whole cell block
Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock."
Kiara and Lucky screamed with laughter when Robert threw Liz’s feet over his head and applauded when Robert took Elizabeth in his arms, laughing at the end of the song. They slowly stopped laughing and they were just looking in each other’s eyes, their heads becoming heavier by the second. Robert’s head went a little on the left side and Elizabeth’s went on the right.
"-Do it dad. Lucky whispered. Come on, you know you want to"
Kiara saw Elizabeth’s hands leave Robert’s shoulders and went to the back of his head, bringing his head close to hers, and finally, the long awaited kiss was given, as Robert’s lips brushed Elizabeth’s with a tender pressure.
"-YES! Shouted Lucky"
