CHAPTER 16

Elizabeth and Robert laughed when they heard their son’s shout. They smiled at each other and Robert whispered;

"-He really wanted us to kiss

-So did I. She whispered back"

Robert’s lips met hers again and she deepened the kiss, not caring about the rooting from Lucky. They laughed through the kiss when they heard Kiara say;

"-You said they were stupid not to do the same, now they’ll leave us alone and you are too stupid to do the same

-Actually, it’s time to head back. It’s only fair that I take the wheel for a while so I can nag about *them* needing to come up for air

-You are not driving my car, Robert said, walking towards him with Elizabeth’s hand in his

-It might not be such a bad idea, said Elizabeth"

She felt 3 pair of eyes piercing holes through her body and she blushed when she realized what she said.

"-I mean, it’s only fair for him to drive us for a while, after all, we are old and tired, they should be pampering us and not the other way around

-Nice save mom.....NOT"

Everyone laughed and Robert threw the keys to his son. He told him to be careful with his "baby" and Kiara said he didn’t need to worry, he was taking good care of her. Everyone laughed when Robert said "I was talking about my car"

Lucky was driving toward the highway, at 20 m/h, and Robert told him, laughing, he was allowed to go to 50, but not higher. Lucky kept looking at his parents in the backseat. They were sitting on each side of the car. They weren’t even holding hands. He sighed and looked in front of him. He took another tape from his father’s collection and put it on the radio.

"-What is that? He said when he heard a slow song

-Oh my God, said Elizabeth. I haven’t heard that song in so long!

-Care to tell me what it is? Asked Lucky again

-Your father and I danced to it. I told you about it but I couldn’t find it anywhere, remember?

-Oh yeah, you danced on it at Valentine’s day didn’t you? Asked Lucky, looking in the rear view mirror.

-Yeah. God must have spent a little more time on you. Answered Robert.

-What else do you have in there? Asked Lucky, looking at a couple of tapes.

-Hmm, let’s see. I have My girl, Strauss 51, Jailhouse Rock, of course, a couple of others, too.

-All songs from our past? Asked Elizabeth

-Most of them yeah. The others just reminded me of you."

Elizabeth blushed when he said that, and Lucky squeezed Kiara’s hand in victory. They were starting to open up about their feelings for one another. He just needed to get Nikolas out of the way and bingo.

They arrived in Port Charles later and Robert took Elizabeth all the way up to her doorstep, not caring about Nikolas and what he might think to see him there. He kissed her on the cheek and pressured her hand softly.

"-Do you think he will be really mad? Robert asked

-To tell you the truth, I don’t really care. One of my children was missing, it was my job to bring him home. It’s not worst than when he leaves for a month on a business trip. I left what? 3 days?

-I was actually talking about leaving with me for three days

-Who cares?

-He might. You are married to the guy

-What’s the matter Lucky? Afraid of your big brother? She asked with an evil grin

-HELL NO! He answered with a smile. Every time he and I fought, I won!

-Oh is that so? She asked with a laugh

-Yeah it is so"

Robert went back in the car and went home with Kiara and Lucky. He started to move his things from his own room into the guest room. Lucky helped him, even though he repeated time and time again he and Kiara could keep her old room. Robert just acted as if he was deaf. He had to made up for the lies he told, and helping them start out as a married couple was a good way to make amends. He had just asked them not to make him a grandfather too early and Kiara just laughed. She was far from ready to have children and she admitted, blushing, that she had been on the pill for quite some time. Robert’s mouth dropped on the floor. He never knew.

Robert was sitting at the kitchen table, in front of a cup of coffee. He was a coffee junkie from the time Elizabeth was working at Kelly’s and he would wait for her. He would drink so much coffee, he had to slow and switch to decaf, but he still needed his daily cup and he was taking it. It was midnight and everything was silent in the house. The kids, as he still called them, went up to bed a couple of hours ago, exhausted from their trip. Robert quickly turned around and came face to face with his son. He was in boxers and his hair was out of place. He looked like he slept on the roof during a tornado.

"-You could’ve told me she moved more than a herd of stampedes running for dear life. Lucky said as he poured himself a cup of coffee.

-That’s married life my boy. Robert answered. Women take 98% of the bed and leave you in the cold, always. I assume Kiara asked you what side of the bed you wanted, isn’t that right?

-Yeah, I didn’t know the left side was so small. Lucky answered with a laugh

-Let me tell you something. No matter what side you take, it is always the smallest."

The two men were laughing, sitting at the kitchen table. It was actually the first time since they met each other that they were alone. They put the cards on the table, get everything out in the open. They decided to try and be father and son, one step at a time.

"-If I had known you were my son back when I saw you in the park, I wouldn’t have walked out on you Lucky, said Robert.

-I know that now. At first, when I heard you came and saw me, I thought it was because I wasn’t handsome enough, or enough of a Spencer for you to love me.

-Oh Cowboy, that wasn’t like that at all. I actually thought you were my brother’s son.

-You know, when I found out about how mom married Nikolas, I left. I mean, I always knew he was your brother and my uncle, but in my head, I always thought they had gotten married the year after your death. When we celebrated their anniversary, it’s then I realized and I just couldn’t live there anymore.

-I know what you mean. I found something out about my parents I was 16 too, and I left home. For about a month I lived in your mother’s room, on the floor.

-I know. She told me. She said you found out your father raped your mother after she got raped."

Robert looked at Lucky. He didn’t know the boy knew about that. They talked again when finally, Robert said he needed Lucky’s help.

"-For what?

-Sweep your mother off of her feet. You game?

-Hell Yeah!!!"

Robert explained his plan to his son and they went to bed. Robert fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow, and, for the first time in years, he didn’t have any nightmares.

"-Mom? Asked Lucky, walking into Medallion, her store

-Lucky, Elizabeth had the biggest smile. I haven’t seen you here in ages

-Yeah, nothing changes. Listen, Robert’s outside. He wants to see you.

-Really? Why doesn’t he come in?

-I don’t know, he said to come and get you"

Elizabeth went outside and was startled. Robert was sitting on a motorcycle, in blue jeans, white tee-shirt, brown leather jacket and his favorite pair of sunglasses. Elizabeth thought about Tom Cruise in the movie Top Gun she saw when she was a teenage girl. He looked just like him.

"-What the hell is that? She asked with a smile.

-Hop on, Robert said, throwing her his helmet.

-I’m not getting on this thing

-Why? Are you afraid to have something powerful between your legs for a change?"

Elizabeth didn’t answer, she just hoped behind him and she put the helmet on. Robert made the gas roar a couple of times before he turned his head around.

"-Hang tight

-Oh now I get it. It was just a ruse to get my body close to yours, is that it?"

Robert didn’t say anything, he just gave his most gorgeous smile, turned his head around and they disappeared in a cloud of noise.
