Child Information
It's a shame that in this day and age we have to worry about child abductions, but they do happen. Parents need to have on-hand up-to-date information about their child just in case they find themselves in this horrible situation. Having current information about your child is essential for finding your child as quickly as possible.  Here is a good list of what to keep on your computer or in your firebox in case anything should happen to your child. You may want to keep it updated yearly at a minimum or more often with younger children since they tend to change quickly.

Child's Full Name
Child's physical appearance (eye color, weight, height, hair colour)
Identifying marks (scars, birthmarks, bow legged, etc.)
Current photo
Photo of any identifying marks if possible and if they are in photographic places
Copy of child's fingerprints (most police stations will do this for free)
DNA samples (I believe there are kits that you can purchase to preserve your child's DNA)

It's very difficult to think about your child ever being taken from you, but it may give you a little comfort in knowing that you are prepared in case it happens. Prevention is the biggest precaution you can take. Always keep your kids within eye sight, always keep a good look at your surrounding area and never leave them alone in a car even for a second to run into a store. That's all it takes...one second.  Children are our most precious resource and it's our duty as parents to keep them safe.  Teach your children what to do if a stranger approaches them. Kids are never too young
to learn this, but don't intentionally scare them. You don't want to terrify your child into not ever wanting to go outside. Let them know that safety always with Mom and Dad.  Don't let the sickos out there win.

Personal Child Safety Cards
Schools are now offering child information cards with school photos. If your school doesn't offer them, then simply make them at home. You can handwrite or type on a laser business card your child's information. Lightly tape a wallet size school photo on the back on the business card. Laminate it using clear tape or laminating sheets that can be found in any office supply store. Make copies for anyone who cares for your children to keep with them. Update them every year when school photos come out.
