| New Requirements for PFDs - Effective 1 April 2006 On April 1, 2006 a new regulation regarding Personal Flotation Devices (PFD) for children less than 4 years of age or weighing less than 50 pounds went into effect. The additional safety precautions now mandated for infants, toddlers and young children require their PFD to: 1) Hold the child securely within the personal flotation device, including a strap that is secured between the child’s legs to fasten together the front and back of the personal flotation device; 2) Maintain the buoyancy of the child, including an inflatable headrest or high collar; and, 3)Ensure the ready accessibility of the child from the vessel, including a web handle. | The Chinese Mitten Crab has been found in the Chesapeake Bay. The bad news ~ it's a foreign species which will have a negative effect on our ecosystem. The good news ~ it's edible. | Hurricane Ernesto |
| Hurricane Ernesto has been downgraded to a tropical storm and will continue to decrease in strength as it works it's way up the east coast. Unfortunately, heavy rains and strong winds will escort this storm. This mornings news expects a 3-5 foot storm surge with Ernesto with the brunt of the storm hitting east of Washington DC.
