Clothes and Closets
Clothes are the ulitmate clutter. How many outfits do you have in your closet just in case you get invited to a ball or just in case you lose 5 pounds or just in case you ever decide to become a biker or a rock video wanna be? Take stock of your clothes. The first step is to dicard any clothes that are ripped or definantly will not and will never fit you again. If you do happen to lose enough weight in the future to warrant needing new clothes, doesn't it make sense to celebrate by buying yourself a new wardrobe? Donuts are not a good reward in this case. Get rid of any clothes that are wrong in colour or style for you regardless of how new they are or if you just really like them. What's the point in keeping something if you'll never wear it? A good idea is to give old clothes to a charity. Let somebody else get some use out of the things you've enjoyed. You also may be able to get a tax deduction. What you have left is all the clothes that you wear on a regular basis and those that are used on special occasions. Organize the outfits remaining into categories.

Start with jeans in the front and keep working until you finish with the long dresses in the back. Keep long items in the back of the closet to allow for clearance for shoes on the closet floor.

HELPFUL HINTS
1. Hang all clothes in one direction. The closet will look more orderly and it will actually save space.
2. Button top buttons on all button down shirts to keep the collar straight.
3. Men are not immune to TMC (Too Many Clothes) Syndrome. They accumulate clothes (especially ties) just as easily and just as quickly as women.
SWEATER MESS?
Go through those sweaters! Put the sweaters that are left in a plastic crate and then put the crate up on the top shelf of the closet. The plastic crate will keep the pile from falling on you.
THE COAT CLOSET!
How many coats does one person really need and are they all used all the time? Store only the coats used on a regular basis in the coat closet. Put the rest of the coats in another closet. Keep updated phone books and maps on the top shelf. When you get a new phone book throw out the old one or better yet, give it to your husband if he is mechanically inclined. My husband leaves greasy fingerprints all over our phone book. I give him our old one and if he can't find something then he can use the newer ones.
THE LINEN CLOSET
The linen closet is a monster all on it's own. What should go in the linen closet? Towels, sheets, and medications. First go through all the medications and throw out all expired medications. Next throw out all medications that don't go with the family. If there are no infants, then it's reasonable to believe there should be no Infant Tylenol. Check all warning labels and get rid of those that don't go well with the family. There are many medications that diabetics and those with thyroid diseases should not take.
Get a plastic shoebox or equivalent and make that a first aid box. Everyone should have one so that when a cut or scrape arises everything you need is right in one place.
