Kitchen
The kitchen is the most busy room in the home so therefore it should be the most functional.  Look around.  Are the dishes easily accessible?  Are the pots and pans eay to get to?  Are the spices easy to find?  Glasses and dishes should be close to the dishwasher.  Pots and pans should be by the stove.  Go through all your spices and consolidate.  Combine bits of the same spices into one jar.  Throw out old spices or ones you know you will never use.  Keep open bags of brown sugar in ziploc bags to keep moist.  Try to remove as much as possible from kitchen counters.  The less you have to move off the counter the easier it is to wipe down in the evenings.  Also the more counter space you can see, the more spacious your kitchen will appear.
If your brown sugar gets hard, then microwave with an apple slice.
A small jar for wooden utensils looks great beside the stove.  It's also functional.  Be creative and try decorating an old mason jar.
Tiling across the wall behind the kitchen sink and stove is great for cutting down on messes.  Water splashed onto the tile can be wiped off as well as grease from the stove.
Paint your kitchen in a high gloss paint.  It's easier to clean!
