| The purpose of taking inventory of your valuables is in case of an emergency. If your house should happen to burn to the ground one day, how are you going to prove what you had in it? It's a good idea to spend a weekend and get together any information that you would need in case of a catastrophe. A simple firebox is a great place to keep everything. A bank safety deposit box would be a great place too. Below is a list of a few things to keep in your fire box/safety deposit box. - Photos of expensive jewelry as well as appraisals and the location of where the jewelry is kept - Household electronics like televisions, radios, video games. Take photos of these items as well as mark down the make and model numbers as well as the year when they were acquired. - Take photos and CDs, video tapes, DVDs and things of that nature. Type up a catalog of everything to include with the photos. - Take photos of cars too. They are probably more likely to be stolen or damaged than anything else. Attach make, model, year and VIN (vehicle identification number) number on the photo. - Write down all credit card numbers along with the toll free customer service numbers for each ones and all bank account numbers. - Birth certificates, savings bonds and passports - Copies of insurance papers and wills |
