Also called Wapato and Duck Potato. Perennial of open marshes, shores, and shallow water.
In late summer, starchy tubers are produced in the bottom mud. Native Americans called them Swan Potatoes and dried them for winter food. Hmmmmmmm, good !

 




The first week of August and the air is full of Admiral butterflies ! !

 




Common Mildweed (Asclepias syriaca) ~ & ~ Brown-Eyes Susans (Rudbeckia hirta)
Robust perennial of open places; often 3 to 4 feet tall and grows in patches. The flowers are rich in nectar and attract many insects. ~ ~ ~ ~ A common, bright summer wild flower of roadsides and fields, usually 1 to 2 feet tall.
