Update: July 22, 2003
Just the next installment of my story.  It's a bit of a cliff-hanger, but it's a pretty predictable one.  I'm really bored, so I might update again today.  As you can see, I've added a new section, but that was a while ago.  I have just now brought it to everbodys attention with my little blurb, and neon arrow.
Damn, this is a big update.  It's long, but it gets the setting going for the first chunk of the story, so if anyone is actually reading any of this, its worth the read.
The whole building was pretty run down.  It was on the very outside of town, and was abandoned after the owner had found 3 of his tenants dead in their beds.  The police found out that it was a homeless guy, somebody who identified himself as Jason Ross.  He refused to come peacefully, saying that he was innocent, and led the police in a chase the ended up at the apartment building.  During the gunfight that followed, Ross was killed by a grenade thrown by one of the police.  The story was pretty famous in the town, so the building was well known.  The owner of the building had to declare bankruptcy after most of his tenants left.  The local government had been talking about tearing it down, but they never got around to it.  It's been twenty years since it all happened.  Now, kids have torn down most of the exterior walls, so the place looked like it had been stripped of its skin.  The building is said to be haunted by Ross and his victim’s ghosts, so the kids who damage the building don't tend to hang around for very long.  The top two out of eight floors were intact, mostly because the kids were too scared to go up there.  Those were the floors on which the tenants were killed.  The three friends stepped inside, and Matt said, "C'mon, there are some cool rooms on the second floor with some couches and a good view of the town."  Since Matt was the only one who had been in the building, he wanted to show them some of the nice spots he knew of.  Matt came to the building on a regular basis, because it was quiet and isolated, so it gave him a place to think.  His parents had just had a divorce, so it also gave him to calm down and relax.  They started up the stairs slowly, since the walls of the staircase were broken down, and a few of the stairs were missing.  They got up to the second floor, and Matt led the way down the hall.  He turned into one of the rooms, and they entered a big open space.  The walls separating the rooms on either side of the room they had just entered had been knocked down, so there was a lot of space.  The wall across from the door they came through had been knocked down, but the walls of the two adjoining rooms were still mostly attached.  This allowed the three teens a great view of the town.  "Matt was right," thought Jess.  "This is really pretty."
The town was lit up, since it was still only ten, and most of the people were still up.  In the middle of the room was and flipped over couch.  It was pretty old, but it was still a good place to sit.  Matt went over and flipped it upright.  After he checked out the couch to make sure nothing had started living in it, he asked Jess and Jeff if they wanted to sit down.  "Sure," came the joint response.  Jess sat down at one end, and Matt immediately sat down beside her, but not too close.  "Push over, big guy," Jeff said.  There were still three cushions left on the couch.  "There's plenty of room Jeff," Jess said in a puzzled tone.  "Oh, sorry, my bad,"  Jeff said, stifling a laugh.  Matt was giving him a look that could kill.  Jeff sat down with a smirk, thinking about his sister.  "She has no idea, man what a blond!"  "Matt, it's beautiful!" Jess said.  "Yah, it's pretty cool, big guy," Jeff added.  "Thanks, I thought you'd like it little man," Matt said to Jeff, even though he was happier that Jess liked it.  After that, they sat in silence for a few minutes, each wrapped up in their own thoughts.  Jeff was about to take another stab at Matt when a loud bang erupted from downstairs.  "What the hell was that?" Jeff shouted in shock.

Update: July 23, 2003
As sort of promised, here is another update today.  It's kinda getting late, but It's still the 23!  Some new characters coming up.  I like the next few characters, so I hope you do too.  Anyway, just read it, and check out the what's going on? section too.
I had to change this blurb because otherwise, it's really hard to fit the update on this page.  It wasn't important anyway.
As Matt stood up, Jess and Jeff had arrived at the top of the basement stairs.  Jeff stopped before he fell into the gap, and jumped across.  He turned around, and caught Jess as she jumped after him.  As they ran down the stairs, they heard Matt's voice and ran into the room.  They saw Matt yelling at a guy standing close to one of the supports in the room.  The one he was standing beside had several suspicious looking chunks missing from it.  "What the yell do you think your doing!" yelled Matt, now starting to advance on the guy.  He didn't appear to be scared, despite Matt's larger size.  "Are you stupid?  Stop breaking those supports!"  "Sorry, I didn't know anyone else was here," the guy said in a confident voice.  "What does it matter!"  Matt yelled, now standing close enough to the guy to grab him without extending his arms very much.  "You shouldn't break anything even if you're alone!"  "I wasn't breaking the pillars, I was just.."  the guy tried to explain, but Matt cut him off.  "You might think that nobody cares about this building, but some people really like this place!"  Jeff and Jess crept up beside Matt and tried to calm him down.  It was not a common thing for Matt to get this mad, and they had only seen him like this a few times.  Whenever he was this mad though, he was pretty scary.  "Like I said, I didn't think anybody else was here," the guy said, still not scared, and seeming a little irritated that he was being yelled at.  "And I wasn't breaking the pillars, just some of the rubble lying around.  "Yah right, then where's your hammer that you were using?  Feeling guilty, so you threw away the evidence, eh?" Matt raged.  "And now you're going to tell me some lame ass story like you were just chucking the rubble around.  Well, go ahead."  "I didn't use a hammer, I was trai.." "Hey, I know who you are!" Jess interrupted.  "You're that new guy from school!"  Jess only recognised him because she had thought he was cute when she first saw him.  He had nice sandy brown hair, and Jess really liked his green eyes.  "Didn't you win the award for best overall grade 11 student?"  "Yup, guilty as charged," the guy said, happy to have an opening to look away from Matt.  "My names Brenen, what's yours?" he asked Jess, since she seemed to be the most approachable at the time.
"Damn punks!" yelled Matt.  "There's always some asshole wrecking something in this place!"  He ran out the door and was on the stairs before Jeff recovered enough to follow him.  "Wait guys!" yelled Jess, not wanting to be alone.  She ran to the door, and saw the top Jeff's head disappear down the stairs.  She took off after him, and almost ran into his back a few stairs down.  Jeff had almost fell through a missing stair, and so now he was taking his time going down.  Matt, who knew where most of the missing stairs were, was already on the main floor.  He turned around and saw that Jess and Jeff were only on the top of the first floor stairs.  He stopped to wait for them when another explosion sounded from downstairs.  He waved his hands around to catch the twins attention, and then pointed in the direction of the basement stairs.  He took off, and jumped the first big gap in the stairs without hesitating.  He tore down the rest of the stairs, and then stopped at the bottom.  There were a few rooms around the base of the stairs, and Matt didn't know where the sound came from.  He didn't have to wait long, as a third eruption came from the room closest to the stairs.  He ran into the room and tripped over a big rock or something.  Dazed, he looked up and saw a hazy figure standing in the middle of the room , facing him.
