*We are ONE vote away from losing our right to choose. *Pres. Bush wants to cut family planning across the United States, and has already worldwide. *Viagra is covered in almost all insurance plans, while birth control is not. *Not since Roe was instated has there been such an attack on our right to choose. The Bush administration has already taken away a woman's right to a D&X abortion, what the administration has incorrectly termed 'partial-birth abortion'. George W. Bush has taken this decision out of the woman and the doctors hands, and into his own by consistently pushing his own moral agenda on our country. *The Bush Administration has put billions of dollars (and a proposed 1.2 billion more) into abstinence only education. This leaves teens unprepared and uninformed about sexuality, and how to practice safe sex. Without comprehensive sex education, teens turn to the media and peers to get information about sexuality, often leading to dangerous life choices and incorrect safer sex practices (pull-out method, douching with Sprite). *Under the proposed abortion law if Roe v. Wade is overturned, women will only be legally allowed to have an abortion if she is raped, it is a danger to her life or the babies, or if it was by incest. This is forcing women to go through an expreience again that they may not be ready to go through, causing severe emotional damage. Right now, if a woman is raped by her father, she can still go into a clinic telling them it was a mistake by her and her boyfriend, rather than talking to a complete stranger TOO SOON about such a horrifying experience. Under this proposed law, it would force a woman to contact police thereby verifying the rape or incest to be true, so that she may have the abortion. This new law forces women to do things they may NOT want to do! In turn, this will shy away women from having safe abortions. *Organizations like Planned Parenthood provide free or low cost gynocological exams to those in need. They also provide free or low cost birth control and safe sex education, therefore curbing the need for abortion and lowering the rate of STD's and AIDS. By cutting federal funding to such org's the government STOPS these women from getting such help. |
