One of the first things built on his land. The windmill went up about the same time as the house. The early years, the windmill went up about the same time as the house, about 1925 or 1926. On Alvah N Davis' farm about 2 miles from Sterley, Texas. It was built within a year or two of when mom was born. I do not know what brand name it was but included a clip enhanced to get a better attempt to make the lettering ledgible. Two popular brands today are Aerosmith and Aeromotor. Rocking R was another brand of that time frame obtained from sources on the net. The wind may have shifted the blades as this photo was taken causing a blur due to motion and sunlight reflection.

It would be interesting to know what the brand name on this windmill was. Without any forehand information about brands from that time I thought it visually looked like it could be W------R Sterling No. 12? I think the first letter is actually a "N" perhaps? One of the unusual things about its history is that a tornado came within 100 feet of it and left it undamaged sometime in the 1950s. It may have been the metal frame structure that later replaced this wooden one. The tornado stuck a straw through a telephone pole and skipped over the house and trees behind the pole and passed next to this windmill and lifted a cow shed and combine about 75 feet from this windmill an eighth of a mile or more into the field behind it.
