Nelson and Hannah Kimbrell had set out with families of her brothers James P Davis and Fannie his wife; John Barton Davis and Christina his wife to Cass County, Missouri and then on to Navarro County, Texas in the winter of 1878 from Cass County, Illinois. I suspect that Elijah Davis and Elizabeth Shoopman, parents of James P, John B, and Hannah (Davis)Kimbrell were with them on the journey. Fannie and Nelson were brother and sister. John Barton and James P Davis were Hannah Kimbrell's brothers. Elijah and Elizabeth Davis settled in Cass County, Missouri while the kids all continued their journey south to Navarro County, Texas. Page 22, SD4, ED 136, 1880 Census for Navarro Co. TX showing Davis families. For some on that journey it was a journey to the end of life's trail. John B Davis' wife Christina Liming and two of their children as well as Nelson and Hannah's baby John F Kimbrell all died either from eipdemic or other cause the first year they arrived in Navarro County, Texas. They must have arrived before 28 Jan 1879 as I suspect John F. Kimbrell was born there but perhaps could have been born along the trail to Texas. One of John B and Christina Davis' children that survived that year was my great grandfather, Charles Edward Davis, he would have been about 8 years old when Christina his mom died and one of his brothers and one of his sisters died then. His younger brother L Leon was about 7 years old and died the year they arrived. His younger brother Cyrus was about 3 years old then and lived to about the age of 22 years. His younger sister Lottie was about 2 years old she was born on 19 Nov 1876. His younger brother Thomas was about 5 years old and also lived to about the age of 17 years. By Tom Smith, Wylie, TX
