The
idea for GLORIOUS was born in 1998
when Mart compiled a CD of previously released songs for the guests
of Hall-of-Fame Weekend 6. The CD was titled Betty's
Twisted Acres Hall-of-Fame Weekend 6: Campfire Soundtrack,
and it contained songs that were popular around the campmfire,
along with tracks that Mart felt captured the essence of the Big
Weekend.
The
following year, he recorded The Twisted
Acres Campfire Song, brought a copy of it up to Hall-of-Fame
Weekend 9, and offered to copy it onto a cassette for anyone who
wanted it. Mart has always been inspired by Twisted Acres, and
he felt it only made sense to write an entire album's worth of
music that paid tribute to this special place and the people who
frequent it.
The
tracks were written, recorded and mixed between August 1999 and
May 2000. Recording took place at Mart's house onto a Tascam 4-track
recorder, though it certainly sounds much bigger. Mart plays every
instrument... in fact, the only noises not made by Mart are Thomoose
Foley's interpretation of the spoken monologue on Are
You Lonesome Tonight?, and samples of Bob Will's voice
and fiddle on Western Turkey.
May
you feel half as good listening to GLORIOUS as Mart felt making
it.
