The Picture of the Week page is on vacation.

Jamesy Boy's Class Picture - Somebody's getting kinda big... here's James Bifulco's class picture for 2001. Patti just got it from Liz, so we thought you all might like to see how much he's grown since last Hall-of-Fame Weekend... hard to believe he's 3 already. Picture of the Week 3/12 - 3/26/01

Baby PJ & Betty in the Creek - Franks' Falls, 1972... two Pics of the Week in a row featuring Franks' Falls! On what looks like another glorious-but-quite-hot day in the mountains, Betty keeps a close eye on little Patti. Baby PJ, bare-bottomed, seems to be handling the heat just fine... in fact, I think she wants someone to slap her five! Picture of the Week 2/26 - 3/5/01

The Partial Monty - Franks' Falls, early 1990's... Mike "Hammer" McCabe is ready to take a dive into the falls, and he's showing off his uncanny psychic ability at the same time. In this photo, he's prognosticating where he expects rap artists' pants to hang in just a few years. And what a bathing suit! Nice package. Picture of the Week 2/11 - 2/19/01

Jambalaya Jam - Memorial Day Weekend 1993... The Crew head down to Philadelphia, PA, for the annual Jambalaya Jam at Penn's Landing. The Neville Brothers, Jambalaya, Dr. John, Po'boys, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Alligator Sausage, G-Love and Special Sauce... it was sweeet! Here's Mart, Chrissy, Patti (with frozen cocktail) and Regina (Patti's co-worker who was an Acreage regular in the early '90's), whooping it up before heading over to the main stage for Buckwheat Zydeco. Picture of the Week 1/22 - 2/4/01

The Shoveler - New Years' Weekend 2000/2001... the big storm dropped 24+ inches on the acreage. Patti's on her way out to shovel a path to the Barn (for wood), the car (to drive), and to the Campfire (for kicks). Spend some time at the Acreage! Read Mart's Diary of New Years 2001 at BTA! Now, I'm off to Italy, so this'll be the pic of the week 'til we get back! Ciao! Picture of the Week 1/8 - 1/15/01

Happy New Year 2001! - Happy New Year from a snow-covered Betty's Twisted Acres! Picture of the Week 1/1/01

Polar Bears - New Years' Day 1995... The Annual Polar Bear Club Swim at Coney Island Beach! Chrissy, a veteran New Years' ocean dipper, takes rookie Patti along for a dip that'll put goosebumps on your goosebumps! We can accurately say that the temperature was 43° (based on the guy on the bottom right's belly-o-meter), and once the swimmin' was done, everybody headed over to Nathan's for a few franks and some cheese-fries (so much for the New Years' resolutions)! Incidentally, Chrissy swam yet again on New Years' Day, 2001. Picture of the Week 12/18 - 12/25/00

Plaque Installation - Hall of Fame Induction Day 1998... Tombie captured this photo of the newest plaques arriving at their place of permanent rest... The Hall of Fame Gallery. Just over an hour ago, these plaques were presented to Don Sutton, Larry Doby, Lee MacPhail, and the survivors of "Bullet" Rogan and George Davis at the Clark Sports Center in front of a huge, sun-drenched crowd. Now, they'll be removed from their sheaths, mounted onto their marble backers, and stared at for centuries. Picture of the Week 12/11/2000

The 2000 Corn Challenge Champion - October 2000... Corn Challenge Champion 2000 Vincent Campisi proudly holds his Corn Champion Trophy for the eyes of the world press to capture. His incredible total of 142.5 ears is certainly something for all of us to gain inspiration from, and to shoot for next year during the 2001 BTA Corn Challenge for Charity! Vinny vows to take on all comers next year, and he fully plans to have another Corn Champion Trophy sitting on his mantel in the East Ballroom at Chateau Campisi this time next year. He'll sit with slippers on, and smoke his pipe while admiring the trophies, while his colon rumbles with echos of his past accomplishments. Picture of the Week 12/4/2000

Demolition Derby - Cobleskill Fair 2000... So you've never been to a demolition derby? You're missing out! You're really missing out. Folks spend weeks getting these old, solid-steel, gas-guzzling, made-in-the-USofA, windshield-free, back-seat-free, anything-but-what-is-absolutely-necessary-for-the-car-to-run-free vehicles ready for the Fair, then they display them on their front lawns in the days leading up to the Fair so folks can decide which car they're gonna root for. Then Derby Day comes, and all that work gets smacked, smashed, crashed, and compacted so that the towing guys can come and take them away. As you can see, they're brightly painted... there's a separate contest to judge the best-painted car. Don't miss out any longer! Find and attend a Demolition Derby today! Picture of the Week 11/27/2000

Socko & Boomer Wed - August 22, 2000 - Las Vegas! Sin City! The casinos! The entertainers! The glamour! The expensive taxicabs! The wedding chapels! Socko & Boomer spent the week at The Mirage, and tied the knot in a very romantic early-evening outdoor cermony on a warm-but-lovely Tuesday evening. This little photo-montage puts the newlyweds right in the center of the action, with the statue of a Vegas legend standing over them like some sort of American saint offering a blessing. Picture of the Week 11/20/2000

We Suck at Billards - Ticket Day 1999... McGoo (aka James McGlyn) and the Martman, two of the Baseball Boys (along with The Moose and The Tombie), embrace during their peculiarly-competitive but typically-poorly-played billiards match at The Bold Dragoon. From the look on his face, it looks like Martino is losing, but there are no losers at Ticket Day! Picture of the Week 11/13/2000

Corn to Burn - Betty's Twisted Acres Hall-of-Fame Weekend 9 (2000)... With Corn Challenge 2000 in full effect, Mart and Tombie decide to head over to Shaul Farms for a bushel of just-picked sweet corn to cook up for everybody along with the obligitory BBQ on Hall-of-Fame Friday Night. Trouble is, several HOF Weekenders are up at the farm already, and having entered into the Corn Challenge, each one of them wants to keep up with the others' corn intake! So, for every 2 ears of corn they shuck, everybody eats 1... raw! If you've ever had raw fresh corn right off the stalk, you know that it's sweeter than an apple, and twice as delicious! If you haven't, you must try it. Anyway, this is a view of world-famous Betty's Campfire filled with husks and already-consumed ears of sweet corn. Many more ears and logs would burn in the pit during that legendary weekend. Picture of the Week 11/6/2000

Bovine Starlets - Cobleskill Fair 2000... These gals are patiently waiting to be judged. They'll be bathed, brushed, milked, bathed again, paraded in front of judges, brushed, milked, bathed... you get the idea. The Cobleskill Fair has been taking place for 124 years now, from Tuesday to Sunday in the 2nd week of August at the Cobleskill Fairgrounds. Cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, goats, horses, rabbits, and lots of other species are represented in the contests, and only one of each gets the "Best in Show" ribbon! Additionally, there's a Demolition Derby, all sorts of rides and games, absolutely delicious Apple Fritters, Brooks BBQ Chicken (best in the Northeast, take it from me), and concerts by some great country music artists. This year, Joe Diffie appeared (James P. and Julie Walsh saw him and loved him), and last year, Pat and Mart saw the Oak Ridge Boys! These gals are some of the prettiest Brown Swiss Cows at the Fair. Perhaps they'll see you next year! Find out more at The Cobleskill Fair Website! Picture of the Week 10/30/2000

The Deer With The Peeled-Away Face! - Route 145, Franklinton ... This mounted deer head has been hanging over a garage entrace on the south-bound side of Route 145 in Franklinton for a bunch of years. As time has worn on, the skin covering the face has peeled off due to the harsh mountain weather conditions. If you look, you'll see the facial skin hanging on either side of the skeleton... it's really an intense sight. Be sure to look for it next time you're on your way up to (or home from the Acreage). On the way up, it'll be on the left... on the way home, on the right... I guess you can say it's not for the squeamish, but it's really neat, isn't it? Picture of the Week 10/23/2000

Say Hey! Say Who? Say Willie! - August 2000... Mart, Pat, Moose, James & Christopher Walsh, Chrissy and Drew and a host of others head down to Snug Harbor on Staten Island to see the Willie Nelson show. Willie never fails to put on an excellent concert, and he always hangs around for a couple of hours after the show to take photos with fans, all the while signing autograph after autograph. Here's Pat and Mart with the Red-Headed Stranger himself! After this picture was taken, Willie, unsolicited, signed Patti's T-Shirt right over her right breast! No, he didn't sign Mart's T-Shirt. Picture of the Week 10/9/2000, 10/16/2000

Luis Tiant and Friends - Hall of Fame Game Day2000... The Moose, Hector, and Willie wander aimlessly around The Coop after watching a wonderful Hall of Fame Game between the D-Backs and Indians, and who do they come across? Luis Tiant, of course! Who else would you expect to meet in Cooperstown (besides Pete Rose)??? Mutton chops looking fantastic as always, Luis has the cigars at the ready, and Hector (who looks in love in this photo) asked for one of them tightly-rolled cubans after this photo was taken. Luis' response? "No. No cigar." Maybe Babe Ruth will give you a special one, Hec! Picture of the Week 10/2/2000

The Mount Rushmore of Idiots - Ticket Day 1999... the now-classic photo taken outside the Baseball Hall of Fame shortly after everyone arrived on Friday afternoon to wait all night long for tickets! This is the picture that coined the legendary moniker... The Mount Rushmore of Idiots. From left: Frankleen Calabro, Joey Jo-Jo Darconte, Brendan Heddle, Don Andersen. Not pictured, but an idiot nonetheless, is Brian Collins, who was unable to attend Ticket Day '99. Photo by Martino. Picture of the Week 9/25/2000

The Picture of the Week took some time off while the BTA Website was being re-designed... July/Sept. 2000

The Acreage Awaits! - Can you believe it's almost here? The Acreage awaits your arrival next weekend! Here's the view from a terrific place to pitch your tent... the pond campsite. Picture of the Week 7/10/2000

The Bird Bell - The bell is about to ring kicking off Betty's Twisted Acres Hall-of-Fame Weekend 8 (just two weeks!!!)... and this antique bird-bell that Liz bought Mart for his birthday hangs a-waitin' on the barn (right next to the mighty CAN CRUSHER!) Picture of the Week 7/3/2000

Ticket Day Unoccupied Seats Sign - Ticket Day 2000... the sign says it all. Did it impede our Ticket Day festivities? Not at all. Picture of the Week 6/26/2000

Francesca at the Acreage - BTA Memorial Day Weekend 2000... Who is this little cutie!? It's Francesca Bifulco, Liz & Jimmy's daughter, and Jamesy's little sister. She's bundled up against that early-morning mountain air, and you can tell that she's a country bumpkin already! She's just shy of 5 months old in this picture, and she told me to write to everybody, "I'll see ya at Hall-of-Fame Weekend 8!" Picture of the Week 6/19/2000

Candle Blowers - BTA Memorial Day Weekend 2000... Jamesy-Boy assists Mart as he blows the candles out on his 33rd Birthday Cake. Everybody celebrated by going to the Greenville Drive-In to see "Dinosaur" (James loved it) and "Shanghai Noon" (James fell asleep). Picture of the Week 6/12/2000

Father and Son - Hall of Fame Game 1999... it's Gage Corson's 1st Birthday, and what better place to celebrate than in Right Field! Papa Kenny proudly carries the sleepy little man... how could he doze amidst all the noise? Easy! Can't wait to see how much bigger Gage has gotten when he comes up for Hall-of-Fame Weekend 8! Picture of the Week 6/5/2000

Old Slugger - Nothing beats a beer, and when in Cooperstown, NOTHING beats a delicious Old Slugger! Brewed just outside Cooperstown (along with Nine Man Ale, Benchwarmer Porter and Strike Out Stout), the Old Slugger family of beers is slowly becoming the official brew of Ticket Day! Labels courtesy of Joey Jo-Jo Darconte Picture of the Week 5/29/2000

Double Falls! - MORE Classic Acreage - a view of Double Falls, the waterfall we used to go to back in the 1980s/early 1990s, until it was bought and "No Trespassing" signs were put up. Figuring that it's Memorial Day Weekend and you probably need some cooling off, this pic is bound to cool you off. It's Summertime at The Acreage!!!! Picture of the Week 5/22/2000

The Original Picture Barn! - Classic Acreage - a view of the main barn and the back of the farmhouse from the auxiliary campfire area. This photo was probably taken in 1994 or 1995. This is the famous "Picture Barn" where you can view all of your favorite classic BTA photos right here on this website! Picture of the Week 5/15/2000

Mr. Jukebox at Ticket Day! - Ticket Day 2000 - Sherman's Tavern, 2:00am... The DJ wasn't doing karaoke, but the Right Field Rooters insisted, and as a result, Last Call was accompanied by a rousing karaoke rendition of "Just a Gigolo" by Martino (or was it Mr. Jukebox?!). The revelers left with big smiles across their faces! Photo: Brendan Heddle Picture of the Week 5/8/2000

Moose Approaches the Tents - Hall-of-Fame Weekend 1999... When The Moose strikes, he strikes so silently, so swiftly, and with TOTAL SURPRISE! Notice how as he nears the pup tent, he steps with care (perhaps it is his Toe-berculosis that prompts his ginger approach... notice the bandaged big right toe). But who is in the tent??? We've digitally enlarged that portion of the photo, and it is plain to see that Mike McCabe (Kong, the legendary Hammer himself) peeks out. Somehow, he, Sharon, and Kong Jr. fit into that tiny thing. And notice how, with it's long supporting strings, it takes up about as much ground space as one of the modern, space-age tents behind it! Photo: Frankleen Calabro Picture of the Week 5/1/2000

Proof of Dead Brain Cells - New Years' 1996 at BTA... (from left) McGoo, Johnny Upstate and Patti perform their New Years' skit with a Snowman, Flashlights, a Baseball Bat, and McGoo as some odd interpretation of a taut, pre-teen Swedish Boy. The musical accompaniment to this performace was "Strangers in the Night". Notice the fake nose/moustache that gives McGoo that distinguished look, Johnny Upstate's straw hat, and Patti's terrorist-esque facial shield. Everyone who was up for New Years' broke off into groups and performed skits for everyone else's enjoyment... this (I think) is the only one that there is photographic evidence of. Picture of the Week 4/24/2000

April Blizzard at the Acreage - Ticket Day Weekend 2000... Be glad that you didn't stay at the Acreage over Saturday night after Tickets were sold... yes, it was 75 degrees and sunny at the farm on Saturday afternoon, but on Sunday morning, Patti and Mart woke up to 13 inches of snow. This is the view on Huntersland Road as they headed down into town. They almost got into two pretty serious accidents along the way. Yuk. Picture of the Week 4/17/2000

Ticket Day 2000! - Part of the Betty's Twisted Acres Ticket-Buying Contingent lounges out at Sherman's Pub on Pioneer St. (from left): Mike McCabe, Dave DeLisser, Chrissy Landy, Neil Landy (of the Neilsnacks empire), Martino, and Fish wait for closing time to come around. Picture of the Week 4/10/2000

Ticket Day 1999 Collage - A special collage created in honor of Ticket Day 2000, picturing the folks who make Ticket Day nearly (some would say equally) as special as Hall-of-Fame Weekend. Picture of the Week 4/3/2000

Kirby Puckett, Hall of Fame Game 1991 - Baseball Opening Day is this week! Ok, ok, they're opening all the way in Tokyo, but it's this week! With that in mind, here's a photo taken by Maryann McGivney during the Hall of Fame Game waaaaaay back in 1991! Good enough to be a baseball card, right? Kirby's eventual world-champion Minnesota Twins were playing the San Francisco Giants, and just to give you a sense of how much time has passed since then, Kirby Puckett is eligible for induction to the Hall of Fame in 2001. Picture of the Week 3/27/2000

Bazbo on Jack's Pond - Inspired by the photos here in the Barn, Staten Island radio legend Al "Bazbo" Barry was kind enough to submit a photo to be put on display: this is the Baz on his pond, known as Jack's Pond since 1878 when Jack's Ice House opened for business in Great Kills. Now under the aegis of the DEP, Baz has been the head groundskeeper for the past 15 years. In this photo, Baz toasts one of the last remaining naturally beautiful spots on SI with an ice cold Woodchuck Cider (or is it a Betty's Bootsock Beer!) on Groundhog Day 2000.

Vroman's Nose Topographic Representation - A topographic representation of Vroman's Nose from a map-generating program... submitted by Frankleen. Situated smack dab in the flatlands created by the Schoharie Creek eons ago, Vroman's Nose is what sets the Schoharie Valley "Skyline" apart from other, more ordinary, parts of the Northern Catskills. Inset: The actual Vroman's Nose, taken from our mountain on the way down to Route 145. Picture of the Week 3/20/2000

Livingstonville General Store - About 15 miles before you get to Middleburgh on Route 145 North, you'll see this General Store. It's at the foot of the road that leads to Frank's Falls, and it's a sure sign that you're getting real close to The Acreage! It closed down several years ago, but Patti would love to buy it and re-open it as a gen-yew-wine old time General Store! Picture of the Week 3/13/2000

Sleigh Riding on the Knoll - Late Winter 1996... (l-r) Patti, Neil, Mart, & McGoo have given up on trying to get their sled to roar down Woodchuck Knoll. Guess it's time for an ice-cold one at the fireplace! That's probably about 16" of snow on the ground, and if I remember correctly, it was pretty slushy. Picture of the Week 3/6/2000

What the Hell is This! - It's as good a week as any to put this picture up as Picture of the Week... it's just hilarious! Picture of the Week 2/28/2000

Idiots at the Brewery- Ticket Day 1999 - They are (from left) Frankleen, Don, Brendan, and Joey Jo-Jo... the Mount Rushmore of Idiots. Here they are at the Old Slugger Brewery, just south of Cooperstown, in front of a vat of their favorite nourishment. Seconds after this photo was taken, Don leaped into the vat and drank half of it before security could pull him out as he repeatedly screamed, "SUCCESS!!!" Picture of the Week 2/21/2000

NeilChops! - Hall of Fame Weekend 6, 1998 - Neil has decided that he's had enough of the big dead tree stump that stood for several years longer than it should have. With the help of the other AcreHeads on hand (they're at the other end of that yellow rope you see just above Neil's head), Neil tears into the tree with the chainsaw that always needs to be taken to the repair shop after we use it. It took over an hour, but the stump came down, and about a year later, Neil and Mart rolled it back near the campfire, where it still waits to be cut into teeny little pieces. Picture of the Week 2/14/2000

Betty's 50th Ticket - Hall of Fame Weekend 2, 1994 - The Weekend kicked off like a Saturn V Rocket with Betty's 50th Birthday Bash, held at Monmouth Park in New Jersey. Party-goers were picked up in luxurious buses, spent the day at the track (one of the races that day was called The Betty's Twisted Acres!), and afterwards, more partying at the Landy stronghold on Duer Lane, then off to Hall-of-Fame Weekend 2! Now that weekend was a doozy. Here's the ticket for the party. Picture of the Week 2/7/2000

Patti in the Meadow - Winter 1995 - Patti stands in a corner of the meadow with a breathtaking view beyond her to the southwest. That's Woodchuck Knoll covered in snow just beyond that tree on the left. Consider pitching your tent up here next HOF Weekend... what a view to wake up to! Picture of the Week 1/31/2000

Hammer and Neilsnacks - Ticket Day 1999 - Mike & Neil defiantly stand like two hardened soldiers as the sun rises over Cooperstown after a long, insanely enjoyable night. As you are well aware, Neil knows coffee better than anyone, and his choice for java in Cooperstown? The Taylor Convenient Mart on Route 28 South! Picture of the Week 1/24/2000

Mart in Combat - July 1999 - Mart enlists and is immediately dispatched as a member of the elite GI JOE team. Here he assists Joe (who just fired off another salvo) by opening the canteen filled with Joe's favorite thirst-quencher, Betty's Bootsock. Picture of the Week 1/10/2000 - 1/17/2000

The Campfire in Winter - December 1999... The legendary Campfire at Betty's Twisted Acres, Ground Zero during Hall-of-Fame Weekend, waits patiently in the stiff winter wind for summer to arrive. Picture of the Week 1/3/2000

Stradivarius - You call him Santa, we call him Stradivarius (you'll have to ask why...) Stradivarius stands on guard, steak knife at the ready, guarding the cooler he stands on and it's precious contents. Stradivarius was a holiday fixture at 11 Duer Lane, and now reclines atop the fireplace at his new permanent home... Betty's Twisted Acres. Picture of the Week 12/27/99

Baby Patti and Santa - Christmas 1971... as always, Chrissy tries to keep baby Patti calm as an attempt is made to take a touching Christmas portrait with one of the more realistic-looking Santas we've ever seen. Legend has it that Patti started crying when Santa wouldn't let her keep his stylin' watch. Picture of the Week 12/20/99

Kong Makes a Friend - Hall of Fame Weekend 1993... Mike McCabe alienates yet another mannequin on the corner of Main St. & Pioneer St. Picture of the Week 12/14/99... the first ever!

Hall of Fame Game '96 Portrait - Hall of Fame Game 1996: most of the regulars gather for a right-field-wall portrait... we see (from left) Marty, McGoo, The Moose, Liz, Jimmy, Patti, Kristen, Patty Maiorino, Mrs. Landy, Kong McCabe, and Johnny Upstate. Did we miss anybody? (We don't know the old guy between Mrs. Acres & Kong, and we don't have a clue who the kid on the far right is, but he sure looks happy to be in the picture)

Patriarch - Frank Landy, the Patriarch of Twisted Acres, loading the car up on Landy Mountain circa 1977.

Betty, the Ringleader - The ringleader herself, Betty, at her Acreage, with Lars Vetland's Honda Gold Wing and Friendly reclining next to the barn.

Hall-of-Fame Nuns - Here are some familiar cats... we see them every year at the Hall of Fame Game. This shot is from the 1997 game.

Winter in The Coop - 1/2/99 - Patti, Marty, Moose, Laurene, James and Julie ventured to a freezing-cold Cooperstown, and here they are outside the once-again-too-crowded Cooperstown Diner. Seems we'll never get to eat there... it only holds about 10 people. Moose is trying to count them all! Photo - James P. Walsh.

Mart Gets Held Up - Julie and Patti holding Mart up for some inexplicable reason outside Mrs. K's on New Year's Day, 1999. This photo had to have been taken before they ate, because you know full well that absolutely NOBODY is light enough to be carried around with a stomach full of Mrs. K's! Photo - James P. Walsh.

House from the Logging Trail - Here's an awful pretty view.

Field north of the Knoll - Looking into the Mountain Woods from scenic Woodchuck Knoll.

Vroman's Nose - The pride of the Schoharie Valley.

Neilsnacks Leaps! - The Blizzard of '93... we went up because we wanted to get snowed in. Boy, did we ever! There was 1 1/2 feet of snow on the ground before the storm even started, and another 3 feet fell! Here's Neil on the roof leaping into a 9-foot snowdrift in his undie-pants.

The Bold Dragoon - What would Ticket Day be without Ticket Eve? And what would Ticket Eve be without the Bold Dragoon? Cooperstown is a drinking town with a baseball problem...

Pajama Party - Jim McGlyn, Johnny Upstate, Patti, Mart and Neil all nice and ready for bed after ringing in New Year 1996. Neil forgot his pajamas.

Kong McCabe - Mike McCabe in an unusually calm, gentle moment back in 1992.
NOTE: This picture was taken in the living room before the 1995 renovation.

Little P.J. Skating - Patti skating on the Pond way back in the mid-1970's when it used to get COLD in the winter. That's Lonnie keeping watch on her in the foreground. Good boy!

The Baseball Boys - 3 of the 4 Baseball Boys: Tombie, McGoo, and Mart at the 1997 Hall of Fame Induction. Moose is lurking on the fringes nearby... (that's NOT him in the lower right!)

Nettles - The Moose and The Lo-Rene with Graig Nettles. Need we say more?

Overhead view of the Acreage - This is an aerial view of just about the entire Acreage, taken (I think) in 1994. A 16" x 20" print of this photo was given to Betty as a Christmas gift that same year. The House is in the lower-left corner, Woodchuck Knoll is in the upper-right corner.

James P. Walsh - The incomparable James P. Walsh outside Mrs. K's, New Years' Day, 1999. He looks like he just bought the place!

If you've got a photo you'd like to hang in the Picture Barn,
e-mail
it over to Martino!
