NYC with Baby Bro! Sept. 26-30, 2001 Here's a quick rundown of the trip. NEW LOVE I'm all about "let's get to know each other" before getting serious but when I saw this Aston Martin (the same one in "Romeo Must Die") it was love at first sight. DJ LOUNGE Plant Bar. Tres fun! We met a handful of people through the bonding powers of tobacco. MEDIA Contact. It won the 2000 Tony award for Best Musical though there's no singing. Not as entrancing as hoped but it was good. Conan O'Brien show. Funny, free and arguably better than Contact. Rob Schneider. Shared an elevator with the star of Deuce Bigalow! Dave almost got into a brawl with him... SHOPS Bergdorf Goodman. Oohhhh! So many pretty things here... Macy's. We wandered in just long engough to legitimately say that we've been there. H&M. This is one of those stores where you're really excited when you first walk in. After 5 minutes, you finally realize why you avoid these kind of stores. They sell inexpensive, clubby type clothes. Old Navy. This is the biggest store in the nation. Heaven to Old Navy fans; hell for poor me. Gap. Banana Republic. Dave used his corporate employee discount (woo hoo!) to get me 30% off this colorful but tasteful top. Not that colorful things aren't great. It's just amazingly hard to find something that has more than 3 colors that I'll like after a couple of wears. Probably explains why I have a lot of black clothes. Canal Jean Company. Stepped in and stepped right out. Looked like they were having modeling tryouts cuz it was over-run with junior/high school kids. James, it was probably better than your theatre. Kenzo. Didn't blame the sales woman for totally ignoring me - I don't earn enough $$ to buy anything decent here! Still, I wish I could have pulled a "Pretty Woman" move... Paul Smith. Fab men's store where I found a cute pink shawl I plan on using as a scarf this winter. Stussy. ...and entirely too many shoe stores to count! Dave was on the hunt for a pair of retro Reeboks. We never found them but I did find a new blister on my toe. grrr... FOOD Yama's. Great sushi place. Went to the one on Houston. Oyster Bar. Voted one of the best places for raw oysters in NYC by City Search and I totally agree! I was in heaven!! though it was down in Grand Central Station. Carnegie Deli. I thought that Luis Rich was as good as deli meats get but I was dead wrong. I had a phenomenal pastrami sandwich which was probably 5" high - and that was one of the smaller ones! You've gotta try an authentic deli pickle. Le Colonial. Great Vietnamese place. When I went upstairs to the ladies' room, imagine my surprise when I found a fun looking bar. Dave goes to the one in San Francisco to start off the night. Balthazar. Very popular with the "trendy" locals. People were drinking champagne with their breakfast! Houlihan's. If you're reading this, please please don't go to the one by the Lincoln Center. It was disgusting (Dave found hairs on our table) and the food was below par even for a chain restaurant. Gray's Papaya. Decent hot dogs but I'd recommend going here for the papaya juice! Lombardi's Pizza. Yummy, yummy New York style pizza! McDonald's. Only because it's open 24 hours. Gyro Cart. Finally broke down and bought a gyro from one of the ubiquitous carts. |
