Johns, Janes, maybe even an Iago
Will come to learn, learn, sleep and graze.
It's so great, the creator we'll surely praise-
Ol' John D. Rockefeller.
But forget you that copy of Ol' Yeller,
For now the diet's strictly Nabokov.
We?ll see not black and white only mauve.
The prophs will like our brains
But not our legs- oh so many strains.
Don't worry dear- let's just dance.
It doesn?t matter if we poop our pants.
T.S. told me there's time to murder and create.
So until our graduation date
We'll dream of Californ-e-a
Pornograph-ia
Velouria
Or whatever makes us elate.
Now hold my hand and wait
For September's date.

Preface: I write mostly short fiction, but this is a good introduction to my writing style; this poem was written a year or so ago and is best read aloud, I think.
Life in America
life liberty and the pursuit of happiness for the old red white and blue black
white gray negro caucasian asian hyphenated american dreams of liberty and
justice for all the rich white men that is forget the women mothers sisters
grandmothers daughters and entire generations of female hope for the future of
the land of the free and the home of the brave where liberal conservatives and
democratic republican hypocrites promote ignorance in the education of masses
of children in this world who die every year from drunk driving excess murder
suicide rape the statue of liberty for all we care because we're a new
generation emerging from suburbia to take over the world with celebrity
obsession movies commercials songs on the radio and mtv because who has time
to read anymore so just jump on the bandwagon lynch a minority and call it a
day before you get the chance to learn from the past read a book examine the
constitution know your rights in this the greatest country in the world whose
forefathers overcame great obstacles to promote freedom high taxes justice
separation of church and state peace slavery religious freedom and sex drugs
and rock 'n roll but they never promised to protect the homosexual the black
man or the innocent pedestrian bystanders only capitalism greed and gimme
money money money because poverty is the american nightmare and money doesn't
just grow on trees since the destruction of the rainforests so save the planet
if not for your children for global economy e-commerce spanning the globe
bringing chai lattes to midwestern states and giving caffeine headaches to
millions of apathetic high schoolers across the country so at least they will
have something to tell their therapists about but it isn't about the black man
or the white woman or the asian transsexual or crime and punishment war and
peace pride and prejudice or the feminine mystique (those are all novels by
the way) or any other jargon lingo technobabble america online frowny-faced
complaints...
it's about YOU and YOU need to rock the vote pay attention don't fall asleep
in class respect your elders learn from your mistakes bite the bullet speak
out against injustice be yourself don't wear abercrombie read a book speak
your mind don't listen to everything they tell you and above all, don't
sacrifice yourself because you're all you've got in this crazy mixed-up
country, my friend
