Another milestone is being marked in the Filipino Community of Hawaii with the 21st Anniversary and Coronation Ball of the United Laoaguenos of Hawaii on Janiuary 12, 2001, an occasion that is highly anticipated by almost everyone. In this regard, I am joined by the officialdom of Laoag City in expressing our warmest felicitations to all the officers and members of this prestigious Ilocano association headed by the very dynamic and generous President, Mrs. Angie Borromeo. We are excited as you are because we look forward with enthusiasm to your presence and attendance in the forthcoming Pamulinawen Festival 2001 from February 4 to 12, 2001. Ms. United Laoaguenos of Hawaii 2000 and her court will be accorded the same honor during the United Laoaguenos of Hawaii Night on February 9, 2001, their Coronation Nights. Your pageant bring glory to Filipina womanhood in Hawaii promotes our culture as well as the beauty of our race. I congratulate the winners and all the participants in this biennial affair, which is being held as part of the United Laoaguenos cultural promotion program and to fund its civic and community activities such as the extension of scholarship grants to deserving students who wil be potential pillars of the community. Your organization serves an important unifying function for the citizens of Hawaii and Laoag City, in the Ilocos Norte province of the Philippines. Your scholarship assistance opens doors of opportunity and allows deserving young people to pursue their dreams. This is a proud day for all Filipinos. Tonight we celebrate Filipino culture, crown the ULOH queen, Mrs. Charity, and Miss ULOH and commemorate this fine organization's significant contribution to the Laoag City Town Fiesta. I congratulate the lovely women who will be bestowed this prestigious crowns. I am certain that they will proudly represents our islands in the Philippines. I commend the United Laoaguenos of Hawaii for maintaining its friendship with the people of Laoag and perpetuating the Filipino customs and traditions in our islands.
