~Living 4 Today~ Fibromyalgia. . .The invisable Illness |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This page ia about living with *Fibromyalgia* I was diagnosed with this awful disease in the "1990's" I hope to offer understanding to persons who have fibromyalgia along with support in your daily battle with this painful disease. And help those to all understand the effects of this Illness. Known as. . .Fibromyalgia the invisable Illness`` When I found out I had fibromyalgia of course I had never heard of it and so "I ask, What is that"? All I knew is that I hurt with pain all over my body and never knew if I would crawl out of bed from one day to the next because I felt so bad. Then the doctor informed me that there was no-cure! He placed me on some pain medication and anti-depressants and some other medication to help me sleep. I took these medications for about three months when I decided I wasn't living on downers and uppers. In fact these medications only made me feel worse. So I flushed them down the toilet. Somehow I would learn to live with this awful disease I have now become accustomed to over the years. Afflictions come in many ways and if I had to be afflicted with this disease the rest of my life I wanted to learn to walk gracefully with its pain and not let others see the tremendous agony I was in. I often wondered at times how I would get through the day, let alone tomorrow. And so I decided then, I would live for today! Really thats all any of us can do anyway as we do not know what tomorrow holds. . . .However the Lord had been to good to me and given me to much to give the fight up to overcome this disease. Fibromyalgia syndrome is a common form of generalized musclar pain and fatigue. The name "fibroymalgia" means```pain in the muscles and the fibrous connective tissues {the ligaments and tendons}. This condition is reffered to as a "syndrome" because its a set of signs and symptons that occur together. {A sign is what the physician finds on examination; a symptom is what a person reports to the doctor}. Fibromyalgia is epecially confusing and often misunderstood because almost all its symptons are also common in other conditions. In addition it does not have a known cause. The name "fibromyalgia" has largely replaced the term "fibrositis", which was once used to describe this disorder. The "itis" means```"inflammation" ```a body process that can result in pain, swelling, warmth, redness, and stiffness. Fibromyalgia is a form of "soft-tissue" or muscular rheumatism rather than "arthritis of a joint". The word "rheumatism" reffers to pain and stiffness associated with arthritis and related disorders of the joints, muscles, and bones. Fibromyalgia mainly effects mucles and there attachments to bones. Therefore although fibromyalgia may feel like a joint disease, it is not a true form of arthritis and does not cause deformities of the joints. *Symptons and Signs* Pain is the most prominent sympton of fibromyalgia. It is generally felt all over, although it may start in one region, such as the neck and shoulders, and seems to spread over a period of time. Most people say that some degree of pain is always present. For examination unlike your family doctor most rhemuatologist {specialist in arthritis and rehumatism} do know when and how to perform such an examination. "I went to the Kansas Chapter, Arthritis Foundation" in Wichita, Kansas. {After I learned out of all the doctors I went to could not find out what was causing all my pain}. The tender areas in fibromyalgia are similar in location to sore and tender areas in other common muscles and bone pain disorders such as tennis elbow and trochanteric bursitis {inflammation of the outsideof the hip}. They are found in many locations and are almost always on both sides of the body. In summary: Fibromyalgia is a common cause of chrinic, generalized pain. It is not damaging to the body in any way, but it is usually a painful disorder that does not go away and waxes and wanes. |
