Tips for Praying

*National Day of Prayer* {May 6, 2004}

"Give ear O' my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth." ~Psalm 78: 1~ {When we open our Bible's this day, let us listen to the words of His mouth. Let us capture what the Scripture says, and let God our Father speak to us through our prayers}

"And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed." ~Mark 1: 35~ {Jesus' got up way before daybreak & prayed}

"And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed." ~Luke 5: 16~ {We can make an altar in our home & pray daily} 1. Set a time to pray & keep it 2. Make prayer a top priority in our daily life 3. Pray with our spouse & children 4. Pray as we work throughout the day "Remember Jesus' is our example to follow." ~John 13: 15~ "Paul said, pattern your lives after mine." ~Philipp 3: 17~ `Who are you following`? *Let the Lord, Jesus Christ be our Mentor* "And get all the advice we can through the Scripture" {A relationship with God is our best friend} ~Romans 5: 11~

"Why Pray"? God commands that we do so. Prayer is and act of obedience, on our part, toward God.

"Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak". ~Matthew 26: 41~ {Prayer is an act of submission, on our part to God. Prayer is also our communion and fellowship with God. Throughout our prayers we grow closer to Him and become concerned about seeking His will}. "That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truely our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full". ~1John 1: 3-4~ "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers". ~Acts 2: 42~
