THE CAMPAIGN.......
Chicago One Love is a unity and awareness campaign,
honoring hip-hop in Chicago. The campaign pays tribute to the diversity in
Chicago hip-hop, and serves as a liaison, bringing an extended hip-hop community
closer together.
Chicago One Love showcases some of the very best hip-hop in the
Chicagoland area, and will come to mean many things to many different people.
For some, Chicago One Love will serve to validate a thriving urban arts
community. For some it will expose them to a culture they only read about. For
others, it may help dispel the myth that Chicago doesn’t support its own. And
for many others it may simply serve as a buffet of homegrown talent.
Chicago One
Love celebrates hip-hop in and around Chicago, setting the pace for a new era,
as we establish social, economic, and geographic momentum. In addition to
celebrating Chicago’s own hip-hop roots, Chicago One Love, salutes hip-hop
universally, both underground, and mainstream, national and international, and
maintains support for ‘headz’ everywhere.
The Chicago One Love campaign will tour live performances throughout the city,
showcasing some of Chi town’s best emcees, deejays, groups, bands, and
breakers. There will also be a deejay and an emcee battle, as well as a few
mail-in contests for the general public. Chicago One Love will also host a town
hall meeting on hip-hop in Chicago, featuring guest speakers, Q&A, and an
open forum.
The yearlong campaign will begin in the summer of 2001, and will conclude with a
benefit concert, and the release of a commemorative CD.
