We spent much of the afternoon at our third destination, traveling with a group of new friends - hikers, complete strangers - from Laurel Falls. The trail, though abounding with scenery was quite long, a total distance of five steep miles one-way to the top of Mount LeConte. Alum Cave Bluffs, actually a massive rock overhang, stood two and a half miles from the parking lot. Getting as far as approximately two and one-tenth miles, we turned back as a thunderstorm brewed and caught us on the long way back.
