INTRODUCTION TO HILLEL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MADISON |
Staff: Who's Who and What Do They Do? |
Greg Steinberger (Executive Director): among many talents, Greg is responsible for the vision and energy behind everything we do. As the Executive Director, Greg spends much of his time connecting and interfacing between all the various groups of people who make Hillel run. When in the building, Greg interacts with the entire staff and the students- as a supervisor, Greg supervises Matt Canter and Jamie, and can always be counted on for a final opinion. On a daily basis, Greg works closely with our partner organizations and agencies such as our Board of Directors, the Madison JCC, the Federation and the International Center to develop funding for our program here. As a general note- Greg has great ideas- he likes to be kept in the know, and to give you helpful feedback and suggestions on work you do. So, use him as a resource! Jamie Berman (Assistant Director/Coach Extraordinaire): as the assistant director, Jamie can, and will do just about anything that needs to be done here. Her major responsibilities include major events planning, advising student groups, and supervising the two JCSC Fellows. Jamie is a truly consummate professional- she can shift between her roles as a staff supervisor, student advisor and friend flawlessly. Beyond her advising and supervisory roles, Jamie infuses us all with a better understanding of how to serve our students. Jamie has her Masters in Student Development in Postsecondary Education from the University of Iowa. Andrea Steinberger(Rabbi): As our Rabbi and fearless spiritual leader, Andrea is here three days a week. Andrea has constant demands on her time, from students and staff, because she is just that good! Her responsibilities include planning and supervising a core of students who lead services each Shabbat, planning and leading all High Holiday services, and Passover seders, and teaching. Each week, Andrea gives students the answer to the meaning of life in her class at the Rathskellar, and teaches beginners’ Hebrew. Andrea is an amazing resources- not just for Judaic information, but as a friend and mentor. So, plan ahead and make time to get to know her! Christina Wozniak (Administrator): If you need anything, from supplies, to help developing a budget, to figuring out where to shop, eat, and get the best deals in Madison, Christina is the person to ask! As our administrator, Christina is responsible for making the building run, making sure bills are paid, and invoices are filled, and supplies are ordered. Christina is the best resource you have for the logistical end of program planning, so stick to her rules, keep yourself organized, and you’re all set! Matt Canter & Lina Dreyfus(Program Associates): Both graduates of UW-Madison, Matt & Lina shared the task of Program Associate this year. Matt left Hillel at the beginning of second semester to work for Sen. Feingolds' campaign in Milwaukee. The role of the Program Associate has been in flux for most of my time here; however, one major element of the job is keeping communication flowing between Hillel and the general community. Matt & Lina wrote press releases, and articles for local Jewish papers in order to keep Hillel in the news. Both spent a great deal of time working on the new JCC (Jewish Cultural Collective) which you should definitely learn more about. The JCC is a new student led umbrella organization that will be working with our theater project, the Voice, Major Events, and coffeehouse. Benjie Kaplan (Brenner JCSC Fellow):Benjie was my co-fellow for the 2003-2004 year. Benjie's primary responsibilities included working with the Greek community, Career Networking Initiative, and a variety of other student orgs. including Israeli Dance. Benjie was instrumental in starting the Jewish Greek Council, a committee of Jewish students who are active in a fraternity or sorority. This council will be working on programming next year that strengthens the alliance between Hillel and the greater Greek community. Shirin Ezekiel (Israel Program Coordinator/Sh'licha): Shirin is a fantastic asset to our staff. Shirin joined us in Sept. from Tel Aviv, and has been working incredibly hard this year to create new and exciting Israel programs. Shirin works part-time for Hillel, and part-time at the MJCC, so while she's not always in the building, she's always hard at work making sure we all love Israel :) |
