Auckland |
I flew into Auckland on 2 February 2002 after a 3 hour flight from Fiji. It was sunny and warm when I arrived, a big departure from wintertime Wisconsin. I stayed at a hostel in Ponsonby, one of the neighborhoods of Auckland. It was pretty close to the central city. I stayed in Auckland until 4 February, when I took the train down the island to Wellington. |

The Skytower, looks a lot like the Seattle Space needle, but cooler, because it's in Auckland! The views are spectacular from the viewing decks and you can even pay to jump off it. Not quite bungee jumping, you're connected to a wire and they let you free-fall for a while, then slow you down. |

One of the Team New Zealand boats. New Zealand has won the America's Cup the last two times, and they will be defending in 2003. Auckland's going crazy. |
